How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?

I'm using V's at the moment, and I think it's time to convert to the better since I have had many problems with V brakes. Any idea's how much it would cost roughly? How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?Depends on the bike and brakes you plan on using.

1) Do you have disk brake mounting posts on the forks and frame?

2) Do the wheel hubs have the proper mounting for disk rotors?

If your bike does not have the mounts, items 1 %26amp; 2, then your cost will go up considerably. If you do then the cost can be as low as $90 for a set of Avid BB5's ($150 for BB7%26quot;s) to 2~3 hundred or more for a good set of Hyd.'s.How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?First: It's probably not wroth upgrading to disc brakes unless you already have a decent bike without the V's.

Second: If your bike doesn't have disc capable hubs, and frame and fork mounts-it's either not worth it or impossible.

Third: I recommend spending about $500 and buying a used bike of Craigslist that has disc brakes-you'll not only get disc brakes but also better frame/components.

Fourth: If you really want discs, you can probably upgrade front and rear with decent mechanical brakes (Avid BB7) for less than $100.How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?Often, trying to convert a bike to disc brakes is either impossible, if your frame is not compatible, or not economical. even if your frame accepts disc brake, odds are that your wheels are not disc compatible and if you really want much better brakes you will have to go to hydraulic brakes, meaning new brake levers as well. The most economical way to upgrade braking on a bike like yours is to install better v-brakes, they are not all the same, the better ones are as good as mechanical disc brakes, cheaper, and lighter as well. Disc brakes work well, but they are not trouble free eitherHow much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes, are the BEST for beginners. you can get a full set for under $125, which includes EASY installation instructions(about 1-2 hours).

However, your existing frame and fork MUST have disc brake tabs, to convert....or else it can get very expensive(ie; new frame/fork). Otherwise, eBay is your best bargain...How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?i say dont do it. if your having probs with v brakes disk have a lot more unless you drop a couple hundos. instead upgrade to nicer v brakes. itll cost you too much and give you tons of headaches to upgrade to disk. i know its not what you want to hear its not what i wanted to hear when i wanted to do it but when the shop i went to laid out the prices and stuff(even buying it dirt cheep through craigs and ebay it still cost me around 2-300 so def not worth it. wither upgrade to better v brakes which i run on my hardtail and dont have any problem stopping on or save money and upgrade bikeHow much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?the first question is to check if your frame and fork would take the disc system. check for mounting screws in the place where the caliper goes.

also if the hubs will take disc. if everything is a yes, depends on the level, but around $300. if the answer is no to some of those and you want something fancy, it could be $1000 or more

bikingthingsHow much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes?if your bike is not compatible with disk brakes or you need lots of upgrading it would be much easier to just get a new/used bike with disk breaks

check out pinkbike.com

i got a sweet bike off there for $500How much on average, would it cost to convert a bike to disc brakes? You can't. If the frame's not made for it, you can't. Period.
