How do you know if your brakes aren't working effectively?

I want to know if my brakes are working effectively as they should be. And I'm not talking about the brake fluid. If you feel a vibration or a hear a grinding noise or a high pitch sound when braking you could have warped rotors worn out pads or both. If you press the pedal and it feels spongy or goes to the floor or you have to pump it to make pressure then you probably have a booster problem or master cylinder problem. Brakes aren't something you want to leave to the answers section on yahoo thou so you might want to go buy a service station and they can inspect them while doing service on your car for not much money.How do you know if your brakes aren't working effectively?Check and change your pads and rotors if necessary. Pads usually require removal of the wheels to check properly. Discs are far easier to check, and can usually been seen through the wheel. If you notice a large lip on the outside of the disc, and the surface appeared grooved or pitted, its time to change out your rotors.

If even breaking exists measure speed distance and time of event and compare to original specs. Any pull or uneven braking such as premature wheel lock up as well as ANY noise should be looked at.Look for any unmatched tires or wear on tires as tires are at the end of the result of braking.
