How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes?

I was changing my brakes and then I had to push the piston back on the caliper. I only had a 4 inch C-clamp and i am thinking that I would have a better chance with a 6 inch C-clamp. The piston does not want to budge right now. Does this mean I have to buy a new caliper? How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes?i would buy a new caliper, because it sounds like that 1 is hanging up,if you dont then your car will pull with you when you brake and also burn up your shoes and maybe your rotor. How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes?if the piston wont go back in then its dirty and the best thing to do is buy a new 1,to be on the safe side.

Why do the job twice??How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes? Not necessarily. This may be all the give it has. Did the new brakes go in fine? If so, leave it alone. Do the brakes work fine now, if so leave it alone. The caliper does not often need replacing. Rotors and brake pad/shoes are the wear surfaces. How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes? When you release the pressure on the piston, notice if it comes back to the engaged position right away with a constant pressure, if stays compressed than yes, I would change it. Its also a good idea to change both sides at the same time. How do I know if I need to change my caliper on my brakes?Put the pads back in and replace the caliper on the wheel...you probably just pushed it all the way in. Start the car and tap the brakes, this will re-pressurize the brake lines. Do not do this without first putting everything back in its place though.
