Changing the rear brakes on my 97 Sentra. How do I get the star adjuster to spin out?

I guess I'm just stuck on stupid cuz I've done this cars brakes before but I can't get the adjuster to spin out. You have to adjust the self adjusters all the way in to install the brake shoes. Then you turn the star out with a screwdriver until the shoes are close to the brake drum. Then you drive backwards, hitting the brakes every few feet until it feels right and the handbrake is correct. And yes, you can adjust the self adjusters by applying the handbrake as you go backwards slowly.
