When i squeeze the brakes, it takes a while for the bike to completely stop.
There is still enough padding on the brake pads.
Is there any way I can fix and enhance the braking power so it will lock onto my rims and stop the bike efficiently?
Is there a way to clean the brake pads to help it?
How do you recover bad brakes on BMX bike? What kind of rims do you have..?? It's a known fact that powder coated rims (coloured rims) don't work as well with brakes, as chrome rims do. The paint on the rims just don't grip to the brake pads as well as chrome rims do.
What you can do, is give the rims a good clean, with some wet-naps. I like to use the ones that you get at KFC. They're perfect size for cleeaning your rims :)
Alternatively, you could pour Coke onto your rim. Sounds odd, i know, but look it up online, and I'm sure you'll see cases of people who use this method. When the Coke dries, it's super sticky on your brake pads.
Make sure ur brake pads are clean, too. When they get a film of paint, or dust, they can be a lot less effective. Take them off, and rub them on a brick, to clean the black film that builds up on them, and it will really rough-up your pads, which is helpfull with making them grip better.
What brand are your brakes, too..?? Cheaper brakes usually don't work as well as good ones, too. I have 990's on my bike, with Hombre Fiesta pads. I can stop on a dime, and do front wheel hops on the pedals, thats how good they are :)
Hope you can get it sorted..!! I am going to take my brakes off next year. lolHow do you recover bad brakes on BMX bike?Westcoast has a great answer exxcept for the chrome vs. other rims.
