How do I disable ABS brakes on a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero?
My ABS brakes make a noise on a slow stop and triggers ABS light, Trac Off light, and Service Engine Soon light to come on. Once car is turned off and back on lights go away for awhile until the next slow stop. When these lights are on, the ABS brakes return to normal NON-ABS brakes. Is there a way to disable them permanently? And is it really a bad things to drive without ABS?How do I disable ABS brakes on a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero? To disable the abs... pull the plug. On the back side of you hub assembly, there is a wire that runs from the hub to your abs system. This should be the only wire coming from your hub. keep in mind, your abs light will stay ON. And YES... you don't need abs. People have driven for over 100 years without abs. But, keep in mind... is severe weather... your driving skills will need to be sharpened. abs allows you to just stomp on the brakes and the computer does the hard part. Without it, YOU will need to MENTALLY detect if your wheels are skidding, PHYSICALLY release and reapply the brakes and keep them from locking up.How do I disable ABS brakes on a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero?Keep in mind, if you disable the ABS system, your traction control system will also be disabled as it uses the Wheel Speed Sensors to detect wheel spin.
