How do I fix my bikes brakes?

My sister gave me a bike that's been sitting around for years. It's in okay shape except that on each side of the bike, each brake has one side that touches the rim. I've been playing around with it but I can't figure out how to adjust them. It's the type of brake system with the center pull thing. How do I fix my bikes brakes? Those brakes are called cantilever brakes.

Unfortunately there are a BUNCH of different designs and every one requires a different method of adjustment, so I suggest you take the bike to a shop. How do I fix my bikes brakes?probably the most common question with bikes sitting around, I'm not a bike expert but I did plenty with bikes when I was little

basically you get some tools in you hand and you play around with screws and nuts until you get the thing fixed look at how the mechanism works and think of what is causing the problem play around a little because you have nothing to lose since the break is not working any way

it'll be a good experience, check the brake before riding on it and make sure nothing is too looseHow do I fix my bikes brakes?you have a v-brake set up its bin a while since iv had them but on the last bike i had with them it wes a 4mm allen key bolt just above the metal stick thats conected to the rubber part of the pad lossen this and pull the pad out a little. failing this the brake lever has a little bolt were the cable enters screw this inHow do I fix my bikes brakes?if the rim is bent do nothing but get a new one

but if it's not then pull the brake part off of the rim but make sure the two brakes are evenly a part
