How many brakes should you get in a 10hr work shift?

At my job, they recently change our 8hr work shifts to 4-10s but the brakes stayed the same. Shouldn't they add one more brake? 4 instead of 3? Two 15 min. and 1/2hr. I live in the state of AZ. Where can I research? How many brakes should you get in a 10hr work shift? For every job I've worked my breaks have been different. Fast food we got one 15 minute break for each 4/5 hour shift. I worked at a gas station and we didnt get set breaks, and now I deal poker and I get one 20 minute break for every hour that I work. In your situation it does seem like they should add one more 15 minute break in there since you are there for an extra two hours. Have you talked to them about this? How many brakes should you get in a 10hr work shift?we're supposed to get a fifteen minute break every two hours, with a half hour lunch.

guess you would have to check out labor laws or do you have a union.

How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?

I drive a truck with anti-lock brakes and am considering buying a different car which does not have anti-lock brakes. I'm not an expert on cars so I don't know how their different. Do cars without anti-lock brakes have a tendency to skid if you need to stop suddenly? If your car doesn't have anti-lock brakes what happens if you need to stop suddenly ... will you wind up getting into an accident? Thanks for any help you can give me.How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?anti-lock brakes are nice but not mandatory. what the anti-lock brake system does is apply the brakes while not fully locking up your wheel rotation. with this technology you are able to slam on the brakes while still maintaining decent steering control. with regular brakes, when applied heavily, the wheels will lock up and when you steer it really won't matter because you will continue to go strait. (usually a bigger deal in slippery weather) A way to combat this is to pump regular brakes when you feel the loss of control. the anti-lock system basically pumps your brakes much much faster and more effectively than a human ever could. I have had vehicles with both systems and have never had a problem with either. drive cool in the snow and rain and you will be good. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?i think you are right. anti lock pump the brakes at a really fast pace to stop you from skidding out of control. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?Anti-lock brakes will prevent your brakes from locking up if you slam on them. The brakes will lock then unlock so your car won't skid. Normal brakes will just lock up when you slam on them so your car will skid. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?ONLY THING IS NEVER PUMP YOUR BRAKES IN AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE CAR IF YOU ARE TRYING TO STOP ON SNOW OR ICE. ALB's WILL PULSE THEMSELVES---BUT YOU REALLY WILL NEVER EVEN NOTICE THEM OTHERWISEHow is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?ITS SUPPOSE TO KEEP YOUR CAR FROM SLIDING INTO ANOTHER LANE SO TO SPEAK......IF U HIT THE BRAKES HARD, U WILL SEE THE FRONT END DROP....GOOD SET UP.......How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes? The ONLY purpose for anti-lock brakes is to prevent your wheels from locking up in a panic stop. this allows you to MAINTAIN STEERING, it is NOT skid prevention. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?Antilock is supposed to keep you from sliding out of control. You don't have to %26quot;pump%26quot; the brakes in a skid ( it they are working properly) Personally I wouldn't have them but all I own is old muscle. Oldest 1960, newest 1987. They didn't even have it back then. Maybe I just don't like change. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?Anti lock brake systems allow the driver to keep steerable control of the car under very wet or icey road conditions. The anti-lock allows the wheels to turn in very small increments while under emergency braking which, in theory at least, prevents spin-out and lets the driver steer the vehicle around an emergency situation. Unless you live in very cold climes with a lot of snow and ice on the roads chances are you will NEVER recieve the benefits of an anti-lock equipped vehicle. NOTE: anti-lock is equipped on rear wheels of trucks often because of the huge center of gravity difference -- helps prevent tail from spinning out of control under hard/emergency braking. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?Cars/trucks with ABS do not skid. That was the idea behind them. I don't know the techie terms but the pads on an ABS never lock the discs. Because of this the car tires never lock up and lose traction.

ABS allows you to hit the brakes hard. Since there is no lock up, you have more steering control while stopping and the braking distance shortens. Even in rain and snow/ice

NON ABS vehicles will lock if you slam on the brakes causing skidding and loss of control. The human tendancy in a panic situation is to slam on the brakes thinking that the more pressure applied will stop the vehicle sooner. But all you do in most of the time is lock up the tires and skid further than you would if you didn't lock up the tires. If you learn to pump your brakes, (pressing and releasing them rythmically before the tires lock) you'll never lock up your tires and have more control during an emergency stopHow is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes? On dry pavement, anti-lock brakes are pretty much like standard brakes. Their big advantage is when things get slippery; when the road is wet or snowy and icy.

If you learned to drive before anti-lock brakes were widely available, you probably remember being taught to pump your brakes when the road was slippery to prevent a skid and allow you to maintain steering control. Anti-lock brakes simply do that for you automatically.

So, with anti-lock brakes, just mash the pedal hard and hold it down. Steer around the hazard. You'll feel some pulsing and vibration in the pedal. This is normal, don't let it bother you!

With anti-lock brakes, you have a much better chance of avoiding an accident than with standard brakes.

Anti-lock brakes have been required on heavy trucks for about a decade in the US and nearly 2 decades in Europe. And for good reason -- they work! It's likely that anti-lock brakes will be mandatory on all vehicles in the US in a few years. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes? You have to be in absolute control of non-anti-lock brakes. Keep a really good sense on what you tires are doing. If you sense that they are skidding, barely let up on the brake pedal.

I've driven both and I actualliy like the vehicles without anti-lock brakes better. Anti-lock brakes tend to second guess what what I actually want to do. You apply a little bit of extra pressure, and you find everything in the car sliding foward as you come to a quick stop. How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes? It can indeed make a huge difference. Non ABS cars can lose control if the driver gives into instinct and mashes the pedal in an emergency. Anti-lock brakes will sense if the wheels %26quot;lock up%26quot; in a skid. They'll release the brakes just enough to keep them spinning, then reapply full pressure. The effect feels like a %26quot;pulsing%26quot; in the brakes.

This'll allow the driver to not only keep control of the car, but will also let it stop more quickly than if the wheels lock up.How is driving a car with anti-lock brakes different than driving a car with regular brakes?Driving instructor here.............AND I live in Canada. We have Winter here........

Most drivers brake on corners. This isn't good in winter because the brakes lock up the wheels (all 4 of them), and the vehicle skids straight ahead(speed and momentum of the weight of the vehicle), and will not turn due to the lack of tire traction on the road surface. (physics).........

Drivers SHOULD brake to a manageable speed BEFORE a turn, coast around the corner and then, after recovering steering control while looking up the intended path of travel of the vehicle, should gently accelerate up to necessary speed.

If you practice this during the summer months, Winter driving will become more manageable (also follow further back, tap brake lights before actually braking to warn drivers behind you).

Because most people DO brake on corners and lose control, the car manufacturers developed these %26quot;Anti lock Braking Systems%26quot; to assist drivers. Unfortunately, most people don't understand how they work.

ABS (Antilock braking system) applies the brakes at a very high rate of on/off application. This prevents the brakes from locking up and allows for steering. There is some vibration from this.

This is normal. You push the brake pedal down and KEEP IT DOWN while steering WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. .......AND you will GO where you are LOOKING. .......and deer don't run backwards, so look at the BACK of a deer.........hahaha

  • How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?

I have a 97 plymouth breeze. I was driving today and my brakes wouldnt work. I almost died it was so scary. I had to swerve to oncoming traffic. I tried the E break and that wouldnt work either. I noticed when I finally got the car stopped, that there was brake fluid leaking the rear left tire side. I was wondering around how much it would cost to get them fixed. thanks alot for your help. How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?about $100 bucks . all it needs is a new slave cylinder, brake fluid and the system bled out of all the air and you are well on your way

these cars have a serious . if it is the line you might have to get a new line put on and that may cost you . i recently did one on a '96 stratus so find a good mechanic and get him working on it the most you will spend should be about $250 to 300How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?at least 300-400$How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?New rear brakes %26amp; wheel cylinders, $250-$300??How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed? As long as the brake shoes/pads aren't gone, you may get away with about $150 to $200 to repair that leaking brake line or wheel cylinder...you lost half your braking power when the brake fluid went away from half your master cylinder under the hood...and yes, it is very scary!!!How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?if you do it yourself it will be allot cheaper, but at a shop its prolly goin to be about 250-500 dollers for major work, but if it is just the pads then your lookin at about 50-75 dollers maybe 100..How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed?Brakes are something you can't get an accurate estimate on because you don't know what you need exactly until you tear it apart. How much would it cost to have my brakes fixed? You most likely have a leak in your left rear wheel cylinder, but may also have other problems because your front brakes should have still worked. It's really hard to estimate without looking at all 4 brakes, but if it's only the wheel cylinder, I'd guess around $100. If more work is needed, it just goes up from there.

How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle?

i want to buy a bike commuter bike, but the expensive commuter bikes had disc brakes and not the cheaper ones. so How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle? How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle? It could end up costing as much, even more, or it could be impossible. When you buy a bike, it comes with equipment direct from the manufacturer, at bulk prices. When you buy aftermarket for upgrades, you pay retail prices, much more expensive. If you buy the cheaper bike, you have already paid for the brakes it came with. You then have to buy the disc brake calipers. You may also have to pay for the brake levers, if the new calipers are not compatible with your old levers. you may have to buy new hubs, if your hubs are not disc brake compatible, and discs, of course. Make sure also, that your frame has mounts for the disc calipers. Does this sound complicated? There is a reason why the bikes with disc brakes cost more. they may just be all round better bikes, and worth the extra dollars. The cheapest way to get a better bike is almost always to buy it, not to buy a cheap bike and attempt to improve it.How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle? If you want disk brakes you better buy one with disk brakes. The upgrade will cost more the the real thing. There is nothing wrong with a good set of V brakes in fact they stop just as well as the cheap disk ones without all the problems. How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle?Disc brakes are great for mountain bikes. You do not need them on a commuter bike unless you descend steep hills that last for more than ten minutes at a time, ride in a lot of muddy conditions, or are piloting a tandem. Save your money for some good lights so drivers can see you in the morning or evening hours. How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle? All previous answers that say you should have bought one with disc brakes installed are CORRECT!

It will cost you every bit as much to buy them and have them installed than it would to have bought the one with them. The typical hybrid bike with disc brakes can cost about $400 and up and the cost of the disc brakes alone would be about that much forget about the new wheelset that might cost another $200 or so that can accept disc rotors. Most all manufacturers set up their bikes (with disc brakes) relatively cheaply for sale to retailers to mark-up for profit and are still relatively affordable for the quality you get (NO DEPT. STORE BIKES- THESE ARE ALL JUNK) sorry but I am down on these. My best recommendation to you would be to wait until you can afford the better bike...you will not regret it if you do, sell something you have to get you to that better bike. Go to Preformance bike and you can finance any bike for 90 day same as cash that costs over $500 or to any bike shop that has a layaway program and take 90 - 180 days or so to pay it off at 0% (or more) interest. Just get the better bike, PLEASE?!How much would it cost to add disc brakes onto a bicycle?Your frame and wheels need to be the type for disc brakes, period.

Can I replace drum brake with disk brakes on my newly Yamaha Gladiator SS bike?

I want to replace drum brake with disk brakes on my newly Yamaha Gladiator SS bike. Could you please tell me, is it possible? How much cost it will takes? Will it decrease bike performance? Can I replace drum brake with disk brakes on my newly Yamaha Gladiator SS bike?Doubt it will increase performance any....you just need it to stop. Yes you can convert any drum brake vehicle to a disc brake vehicle. It is all about time an money. You will need new rims for your bike, new forks and swing arm, new brake levers, and will have to install 2 master cylinders, one for front and one for rear. Best advice, maintain what you have or buy another bike.

How do you bleed the brakes on a 95 Acura Integra?

My hubby just changed the brakes but doesn't know how to bleed them. They are squishy. How do you bleed the brakes on a 95 Acura Integra?Do you have some way of jacking the car up? if so jack up the front end first.be sure to put a scotch behind the back wheel,s look on the inside of the wheel up at the top there is a little screw with a hole in the middle of it it,s called a brake bleeder screw. a small wrench will do the trick. turn it counter clock wise while some one is holding pressure on the brake pedal . when all of the bubbles get forced out ; tighten up this screw go to the next wheel. fill back up master cylinder with brake fluid when done.hope this help.s

My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?

but they are still making the same noise. i would to have expected some tention on the brake pedal with new brakes but it feels like nothing has beed done. how do i checkMy car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?Some varied advice there.

As one of the previous responses said, if you've had pads %26amp; discs replaced, any decent garage would have bled the system %26amp; adjusted the rear drums (if your car has them) at the same time, meaning your brakes should feel 'as new', with a very firm pedal %26amp; good response.

I would suspect that at the least, the rear brakes weren't adjusted - pull the handbrake up until it just starts to 'drag' and check the pedal feel again; If all's OK, then that's where the problem lies.

As for noise, it's possible the calipers weren't properly cleaned prior to fitting the new pads, copper grease wasn't used, or the 'anti squeal shims' weren't replaced (You can guess by the name what their job is!)

Just take it back %26amp; explain your concerns - If they're on the level, they'll have no hesitation in showing you exactly what has %26amp; hasn't been done. You should see the nice new shiny brake discs through the wheels (although they will attract surface rust within minutes of stopping the car in the wet - this is fine), and you should see the pads are new as you'll probably still see the writing on the backs of them (although really they should look a bit of a gold colour if the correct grease has been used).

Don't look for dust - with new discs as well as pads, there shouldn't be much to see.My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?Brake fluid pressure may not be correct. Also if the pads have recently been changed they may give of a small amount of dust when new. Clean your weels, drive around and break and then check there is fresh black dust.My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?How many miles have you done with the new brakes???? Usually takes about 200 miles for the pads to bed in and the petal can feel spongy for that period. As for the noise probably a little dust, try braking a little firmer (not slam the brakes on but just a little harder than you are) should clear the dust for a whileMy car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ? where did you get the work done? They shold have never released it from the shop like that.

When a brake job is done right it should come out of the shop feeling like the car was brand new ,,,as far as the brakes are concerned. There should be no noise at all and the pedal pressure should be firm.

My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?First they are disc brakes second you can see new pads through the wheel vents with a torch , if you are not sure go to a mot station and ask them to confirm that they are newMy car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?You Probably need to bleed the master cylinder, and the brake lines, for a firmer pedal. As for the noise they make a noise reduction solution you apply to the pads as you put them on, and even then you may hear some noise, disc breaks are some time prone to do that, the black dust is from brake useage, you might need to turn your rotors. My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?take it back 2 where u had it done and explain ur concerns it may be something really simple My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?the screeching has nothing to do with the brakes wearing out, it's the most common and easiest problem to solve, what the garage hasn't done is put copper slip grease on the back of the brake pad. as for the dust this is due to the pads wearing, the cheaper ones are worse, all pads need to be broken in by driving with very little pressure on the brake pedal so they get hot but don't over heat, it will make them stronger and last longer ! My car brakes were making a shreeching sound so i had the breakes replaced pads and discs ?If it's drum brakes on the rear a build up of brake dust makes them squeal , disc brakes can sequel if the shims are missing behind the pads or if some ones fitted them without putting a smear of copperslip behind the pads

At what mileage do you have to replace brakes?

I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante and have about 65000 miles on it. I think the brakes are starting to go. How can you tell if the brakes are going bad, what mileage does this usaully occur at, and approximately how much would it cost to fix? Thanks for the help!At what mileage do you have to replace brakes? You have to pull a wheel/s and inspect them. The life of a brake pad/s and shoe/s is dependent on driving style as well as type of material used.

I use a soft brake lining material and get 30K or better on them. I would rather replace pads and have good rotors then use the harder pads and have to replace the rotors every time.

The fronts usually wear out first, as they do the major part of the braking. Most shops will do the fronts twice to the rears once.

Not a hard thing to do (inspect or replace) with the right tools and a good work space. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes?Yes its time for brakes , and the price will very from shop to shop if you know of one you can trust go for it , Make sure that you get the best brakes pads they will last a lot longer than the cheep ones, hope this helps. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes? It all depends on where you drive. If it is stop and go trqffic or it is freeway driving. I would start having the brakes looked at with about 35K miles. With 65K, most likely you need to have the pads replaced. The cost will vary too, it depends on the quality of the new pads, the model of car, and the warranty on the pads. Some places offer lifetime guarentees on the pads. I estimate around 200 or so for a good job. Could be more or less, depending on what parts the car needs. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes? The miles you get before needing a brake job is VERY heavily dependent on how the car is driven. Checking brake pad wear is generally done by a responsible garage when the oil is changed. Cost? Depend heavily on where you are. Call a trustworthy repair shop in your area. Out here in the country, it's pretty reasonable in price. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes?According to you're mileage, it should be time...

BUT it depends a lot on how the person drives and uses the brakes...

Shop around and note there prices, parts/labor and ask what kind of brand they will use.

Aside from this, most brakes will begin a%26quot;squeal%26quot; sound from the front disk brakes... that is to warn you brakes are needed.

Best wishes! At what mileage do you have to replace brakes?By far the best way is to manually dis-assemble the caliper bolts from the mounting bracket, squeeze the caliper pistons back in with a large C clamp, remove the calipers and inspect the pads and rotors. New pads will be very close to 5/16 - 3/8 thick from the friction face to the steel backing plate.

If you've have the original pads and rotors on your car they've serviced you well. I'd suggest either organic pads (least amount of brake dust) or ceramic pads. Ceramic pads are slightly dirtier but not as bad as semi or full metallic rotor eating pads.

Avoid off-shore brake rotors. The metallurgy is poor, they rust and corrode quickly and constantly warp do to the lowsey metal and poor annealing properties. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes? Many places will check brakes for free. Brake jobs cost about $180 per axle if the rotors or calipers do not need replacing. Fronts wear out first. If you hear metal scraping sounds, get the brakes checked quick. At what mileage do you have to replace brakes?TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

So look at that plus labor time. How much should it cost to do wheel bearings and brakes on Saturn Relay?ok, bearings installed, upwards of 350.00

Brakes pads and rotors, 250.00 -300.00

My instincts tell me that you speed alot over pot holes, this is why you would require bearings and maybe tailgating as to why you would require brakes

How do I change out Rear drum brake on a 2000 Dodge Neon to make them disk brakes like the front.?

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon 2.0L I bought front/rear drilled and slotted rotors for. I am trying to change out the rear Drum brakes and replace it with an assembly to house calipers so I may use my matching Rotos on the back. I just got new rims and it looks very bad against the new rim.How do I change out Rear drum brake on a 2000 Dodge Neon to make them disk brakes like the front.?this would be an expensive and time consuming conversion.

the brake lines, maybe master cylinder, and rear brake mounts would have to be changed, go to a junk yard and get all the parts off of a vehicle

Any good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?

I'm pretty good at changing rotors and front brakes but I've never bothered with the drums. There are plenty of sites that teach you how to do the front brakes, what about drum brakes?

good luckAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?using jack stands get both drums off. this is sometimes the hardest part. then do one side at a time so you can look at the other side to see how it goes when you can't remember. After the drums are off it is a 2 minute job on some cars, 2 hour on others. Brake spring tools are nice to have but not necessary. Check the hydraulic cylinders as they are prone to leaking when new shoes are installed. They are pushed back up into their bore where rust will be if the car is old and water has made it into the brake fluid. Do not try to get by without having the drums turned or replaced unless you really didn't care about the brakes anyway.Any good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?drums are a pain in the ***...but they at the same time are simple its just a matter of remembering where the springs and adjusting the adjuster right. just remember how you took them off and youll be fine putting them back on..there isnt really a universal way to take them off because all drum setups are different...just take a picture when you take the drum off so you can see how they went or do 1 side at a time and youll be able to see how the other side wentAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?SAME IDEA AS FRONT. JUST REMEMBER TO LEAVE E BRAKE OFF. There is an adjustment on the inside of the drum you acces through a hole on the side to loosen your shoes. Its pretty much a gear . I just use a screwdriver to turn it until it frees up the drums. sometimes ya gotta bang on drums to get them offAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?Best to get a manual as there are specific needs for serviceing emergency barkes (attachec) and adkusting them that make them more complicated than disc brakes...and you may need some spring tools and an adjusting toolAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?Been a while since i've done a drum but easy enough, just make sure the cylinder is not leaking when you put it back together.Any good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes?znet.com supported by autozone and alldata repiar servicesAny good websites that teach you how to change drum brakes? What kind of vehicle do you own? • How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?

Whats an average price to get the brakes and rotors on a mid-90s Maxima done at your average car repair shop? I need to get this done pretty soon. Any places I should avoid? How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?I payed like 375 for a pathfinder... depends on the carHow much to get brakes replaced and rotors?$160.00.....good luck! How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?Do you have a Just Brakes in your town? Or anyplace that specializes in only brakes is good.

Don't bother with Pepboys they will lie to you about the pricing in order for you to say yes and then begin the work and %26quot;notify you%26quot; it was worse than they thought, and it'll cost more. How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?should be under 300 don't let them sell you calipers to unless you totally need themHow much to get brakes replaced and rotors?I used to go to Monroe Muffler for many years, do not go there, they ripped me off, go to advance Auto or Auto Zone, ask for the brakes and rotors you need and get someone to put them on for you if you do not know how to do it yourself.

I am guessing anywhere from $20-30 for brakes and maybe around $60-80 for the rotors, just estimating, costs I had when I got mine done, but it may vary depending on namesHow much to get brakes replaced and rotors?Avoid Midas and Sears. Get 3 or 4 estimates and include a Nissan dealer. Oftentimes dealers aren't much higher, install better pads and are more reputable than the brake/muffler shops some of which have high employee turnover with minimal training. How much to get brakes replaced and rotors? If you live any where near meadville pennsylvania it will cost you price of parts and about $65 for me to do it for you.How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?I am not familiar with that type of car but when I had my car's brake pads replaced and the rotors were sanded it cost within $228 . IF you know someone that has changed their own brakepads you can save much on the cost of that , just the price of the pads usually.

If not, then the service shop will charge more for doing this always. The rotors should be sanded down to prevent the new pads from wearing down sooner, if you've never had the brakepads changed before and had the car for years you may need them replaced though.

I would get 2 or 3 estimates. Call around and see if there is a place where they do free estimates on brakes but avoid Sears Auto, they backed my car off the rack in the shop and smashed it into a pole. They paid for the damage they did and I didn't even need the brakes replaecd that time. They offered a free brake pad inspection ,but I ended up with a rental car due to their error that had my rear bumper and one tail light being replaced. How much to get brakes replaced and rotors?I did both sides of my truck for $80.00 total

How can I stop my mountain bike brakes from squeaking?

I have a Motobecane 600DS and have been riding it for almost a month. Just recently the front AND back brakes started squeaking. It's very embarrassing! In normal English, what can I do to fix this on my own? I'm not mechanically inclined. Can I spray WD-40 around the brake wires? How can I stop my mountain bike brakes from squeaking?Personally I use only Tri-Flow on cables and pivots....NEVER use WD-40 on an bike ever! How do I bleed the rear brakes on my VW Golf?

I've got a pressurised bleeding kit which I used on my 1997 VW Golf. The front brakes bled fine but when I tried doing the rear no fluid came out. I even tried pumping the brake pedal but nothing came out. Do I have to do something special at the rear?

The only difference between front and rear is that the front bleed screw is part of the bleed nipple, but the back uses a separate alun key to open it.How do I bleed the rear brakes on my VW Golf?If you opened the valve on the wheel cylinder with the allen key, you should've gotten a gush of fluid when you pressed the pedal, if not, you must've not gotten the bleed valve open.

Normally, brakes must all be bled, not just the rears/fronts/lefts/rights.

The sequence is from farthest to nearest the master cylinder location, usually RR,LR,RF, LF.

My rear brakes squeaks when cold but it dissappears when i drive it a couple of blocks. Should have it serviced now and how much would it cost? How much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop?i own a repair shop, and this usually runs around 80 bucks parts and labor all included and that's using real good shoes also, and turning the drums or rotors on it,but that's a good price,,you can use this price to help save you some money on the repair,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s,,have a safe and good x-mas.How much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop? The squeak may be a wear indicator. You need to have it checked out.

As far as cost goes, it can vary quite a bit. Do you have drum or disc brakes? If they're disc, the tech will look at the rotors, calipers, and pads. Those parts can be expensive.

If they're drum brakes, you just have the shoe and the drum. Not a lot of work, so it is a lot cheaper. How much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop?Honda civic, or F-350 super duty truck? How much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop?On a regular car usually around 89.00 to repair but much higher if your driving a heavy duty truck such as a f-350 ton truck. How much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop?make of car applies, and location. I own shop in city on average with top quality brakes(Bendix is what i use) around 130.00 depending on labor rate, and whether its shoes or pads. but including resurfacing rotorsHow much would it cost to get my rear brakes replaced if i take it to the shop?pads? or drums?, in the rear, miles? if less than 90,000 on vehicle, take rear drums off and blow the brake dust out and clean them while your in there and put drums back on and see if they still squeak. if so about $100. in any shop. try cleaning them first the general rule is rear drum brakes need done about every third time you change front pads. it depends soley on if you drive alot of city or alot of highway miles. be careful though if drum shoes, new shoes for drums are only a little over a 1/4 %26quot; thick brand new. they only wear when you apply brakes. not like pads where they wear at all times especially when applying brakes. so if they still have lining on them, depends could last a lot of miles still... lol

How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?

Does it last another 3 months before it gets really risky? Also at what point do brakes start squeaking (assuming they're clean)? I know 2 mm is almost the time to service but was wondering how far I can go with it safely. THanks. How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?Driving's fine. It's the STOPPING that will be a problem. How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes? As others have said 2mm is almost nothing and already below the minimum. It's also the observed thickness and due to variations in caliper design this may mean that another unseen part of the pad is even thinner and about to start

    damaging your discs (US=rotors).

I won't repeat the advice of others but one further danger of having pads this thin is that the brake pad can sometimes end up getting thrown out of the caliper completely under braking and once this happens you have to get towed home. If you're very lucky, the thrown pad won't destroy something else or hit another road user as it flies out.

The answer to your question %26quot;how far can I go with it safely?%26quot; is %26quot;nowhere%26quot;. Get the pads changed immediately or stop using the car until you can afford to do it, it's a cheap and relatively easy job if you ask someone to show you how to do it.

Bear in mind that if you have an accident the insurers might not pay if your car is in an unroadworthy condition, especially if they learn that you knew this beforehand. How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?I would highly recommend you to change it as soon as possible, preferably this very moment. If you continue to drive w/out changing your pads, you'll end up damaging your brake system. If your pads only have 2mm of brake materials left and in a situation where you have to initiate a sudden stop, your pads may fail and the backing plate might actually bite onto your rotors and scar it.. even warp the rotors itself which means a larger repair fee.

With all that aside, use common and safe driving sense. You are endangering your own life as well as other motorist and pedestrians. Drive safe and please change all your brake pads as soon as possible! How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?you could drive until the heat and stress makes the lining separate from the backing plate, or break up and jam the wheel, or overheat and stop working, or just wear down to the metal and scour the c*** out of your disc or drum-which will require remachining/replacement thereafter. Continue even further, and you may weld the backing plate to the disc/drum, seizing the wheel completely, and possibly permanently, and causing loss of control-with all its attendancies. How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?honestly for a long time. i had an S-10, and i remember i hadnt changed the brakes in a long time and so when i took off the caliper and took out the pad, i had noticed it had worn down the rotor. it actually grinded down the darn thing, and the pad was nice and shiny. which isnt what you want at all. so to answer your question, if it doesnt sqeak with the indicator that tells you when to replace it, do it now. that is way to close for comfort. i know. i had to use my e-brake to stop before i decided to change my pads on my truck. How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes? You are past the practical safety limits.

I've change many brake pads and I've never waited till they were that thin. Any money you save (few dollars waiting) you are risking the cost of the whole car and your life.

Your brakes should have started squeaking long time ago.

Good Luck... (WOW)How far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes?Brake pads usually have a metal strip that will rub against the rotor when the pad gets low. This is an indicator to change your brake pads. If there is no indicator I would change them as soon as I could. 2mm is not much at allHow far can you drive with 2 mm of brakes? You will be able to drive right up to the scene of the accident.

  • How do I test electric trailer brakes?

I need to figure out how to test the electric brakes on a trailer that has been sitting for a couple of years without having a truck nearby. Is there a gadget somewhere or a way to get them to actuate without a vehicle's brake controller? How do I test electric trailer brakes? This web page: http://www.championtrailers.com/brkart.h

has an explanation of the differences between Hydraulic and electric trailer braking systems.

It alsl explains how they wire, and troubleshooting both the tow vehicle and trailer sides. How do I test electric trailer brakes? The proper way to test your trailer brakes accurately is with a vehicle pulling it. If no vehicle available jack up both wheels and spin one and then the other have someone apply 12 volts to the center wire of the trailer plug usually a 10 gage red wire. The 12 volts will energize the magnet and should stop the wheel if they are working OK. good luckHow do I test electric trailer brakes?just apply 12 volts to them for a short time ,don't hold the voltage on them for too long that will tell you if they are free or stuck,it wouldn't surprise me if they are stuck after not being used for a while, have someone look at them when you apply the voltage to see if they actually move any, good luckHow do I test electric trailer brakes?Just put 12 volts on them. It's not rocket science. It's just an electromagnet in there that makes them start working. The trailer has to be rolling to actuate them.

With the controller, you can sure feel them while driving. That's the most plain way to test them. How do I test electric trailer brakes?SINCE THEY USUALLY RUN ON 12V YOU COULD USE A BATTERY CHARGER AND RUN AN EXT. CORD OUT TO IT, THE FIGURE OUT WICH WIRES ACTVATE THE LIGHTS. JUST BE SURE SO YOU DONT BURN THEM UP

How can I add a bleed type reversing solenoid to a DICO model 6 for drum brakes to improve backing up hill?

For a two axel boat trailer. I'm told I can't use a DISC type master cylinder as the pressure is different. Brake experts at three shops have been unable to solve my problem of dragging brakes. All brake and bearing components replaced at least once. How can I add a bleed type reversing solenoid to a DICO model 6 for drum brakes to improve backing up hill?well it is actually very easy.

Go to a boat dealership and ask for a reverse solenoid. It will have a nipple on one side and a female on the other side.

Remove the hydraulic line coming out of the master cylinder, install it there.

It will have a wire on it , connect this to your trailer wiring harness. ( you will need a 5 prong trailer harness) The wire from the solenoid will connect to the blue wire on the harness.

Then on your vehicle you will need to connect the blue wire to the reverse lights.

After you are done you will need to bleed the brake system on the trailer.

How do you compress the combination valve pin that is needed to bleed brakes on a 1977 Trans Am?

There is a valve that allows fluid to go to the brakes, and I need to compress a pin in order to bleed the brakes. How do I depress this pin? Here is the website where I got the instructions, but his instructions aren't working. Thank you.How do you compress the combination valve pin that is needed to bleed brakes on a 1977 Trans Am?I have had luck centering the differential valve (i assume that is what you are trying to move.) by cracking the opposite bleeder screw like one on the front if you are trying to bleed the back tighten the back ones back up for now and depress the brake pedal slowly this should cause the valve to center its self again.

then opening all four and pressing the brake pedal slowly. this is easier with two people but i have gotten by using a jack handle to hold the pedal down while tightening the bleeder screws up

good luckHow do you compress the combination valve pin that is needed to bleed brakes on a 1977 Trans Am?visit www.mygmlink.comHow do you compress the combination valve pin that is needed to bleed brakes on a 1977 Trans Am?The proportioning or combination valve has a piston inside that floats between the front and rear brake line circuits under normal operation and brake pressure between the two branches so if one branch loses pressure, it cuts off fluid loss and trips an internal switch for the brake warning light. This piston is suppose to be centered in the bore it rides in and can be held in place for bleeding by holding or depressing the piston from the backside on the valve...it lies under a rubber boot. There is a special tool made for this purpose which looks like an L-shaped bracket about an inch wide and 4-5 inches long with a slotted whole that bolts to a mounting bolt for the valve and can be adjusted along this slot to depress the piston the proper depth or keep it from moving. It may not be a matter of depressing the valve piston so much as not letting it move when you crack the bleeder valves. A good service/repair manual like Chilton or Haynes will show the procedure.

How do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville?

I replaced the master brake cylinder and already bench bled it but I don't know how to bleed the lines themselfes. I can't find the screw or whatever to bleed them all I think I know is it's somewhere around the front disk brakes. How do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville?See here

http://www.aa1car.com/library/abs_bleediHow do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville? You will have a bleeder screw at each brake caliper. I think you have rear disc brakes on that model. You will need to start with the right rear, left rear, right front, then left front. the rear wheels you will need to bleed while the car tires are either on the ground or on ramps. This car has a brake proportioning valve in the rear that is height sensitive so it will not let fluid to the rear wheels if it senses that the rear suspension has extended itself. Good luckHow do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville?on the front they are on the calipers, towards the inside of the wheall well it might have a little cap, and for the back, they will screw into the wheel cylinders, just follow the rear brake line and when you come onto the wheel cylinder it should be above it. they are kind of tiny, make sure you have brake fluid, then just pump the brakes a few times and hold down then have someone open the screw and let some air out, make sure you close it back up,reapeat for each wheel, you might have to reapeat it a few times. gd lk.How do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville?Bleeder screws look alot like grease nipples and on drums are located behind the drum backing plate. On disc they will be on the brake caliper. Always start with the right-rear, then left-rear, then right-front and last left-front. Remember to get a friend to pump the pedal firm (but not to the floor) and you just crack the bleeder open for like a second then close it. It may take longer but it eliminates any chance of drawing air back into the lines. Being that the car is an 84 you might want to replace all the brake line while it's down; its quite simple to do and a bit more piece of mind. How do I bleed the brakes on a 84 cadillac deville? If you jack it up and remove tire ,(front wheels), you will see the %26quot;bleeder%26quot; on top of the caliper %26quot;body' it is at the highest point, (so the air will congregate there! It should have a little plastic cap over it to keep the dirt and stuff out (but they quite often are missing).... I generally toally remove the bleeder, and check to see that it is open so fluid can run out! If plugged, you can clean it out with a small drill bit, or wire brush bristles, or whatever you can get to work! Quite often %26quot;it may help you_,-- fluid may drip out slowly, - if it does it is bleeding itself for you! Let it drip till you see no more bubbles coming up out of bleeder, and then tighten down %26quot;moderatly tight%26quot; This is a small hollow screw and can be twisted off if too much %26quot;torque applied!

Rear brakes work similar, but I think you still have %26quot;drum brakes%26quot; on rear, - the bleeders are located on inside of %26quot;dust covers%26quot; near top, -- located just above where the brake line goes into wheel cylinder! They work exactly the same way as the front ones do! best sequence is to bleed right rear (pass side), then left rear, --right front, then left front! This bleeds the longest line first, and then the shorter one on each end of car! Each time you shut off bleeder, -- check to see that reservoir is still full, (you don't want to put air right back in again)! You can catch fluid in small container! If you have a small piece of tubing that is right size, (it is nice), as it can be used to make sure fluid makes it to container instad of all over everything else! of course this is not manditory! I have a piece of clear plastic tubing from an old washing machine, - that I use, as I can see air bubbles travel through line (if it drips by itself),-- this way I can tell when only fluid is flowing.--It also helps to keep dirt and stuff out of fluid!

If it does not %26quot;run by itself%26quot;, you need a little help! Another person would be nice, - but if none available, - you can make a %26quot;dead man%26quot;, - by finding a board or something the right length to go between seat and brake pedal! Start engine, pump brake up, - insert %26quot;block%26quot;between seat and pedal, (put towel coat or something over end that hits seat so that it doesn't hurt upholstry! -- Now you can just barely %26quot;crack%26quot; bleeder loose, and if you have your finger on top of bleeder hole, you can feel bubbles flow out! --- When bubbles stop, flow will feel%26quot;smooth%26quot; as fluid runs out! Check reservoir, pump up pedal again and bleed each one in same manner!

Now you may not have to go through all this -- if you try this trick! ***** Start out by using your %26quot;deadman%26quot; on pumped up brake, -- %26quot;crack loose%26quot; brake line at master cylinder, (just barely loosen)- when it is loose enough, - it will let fluid (and hopefully air) out right there! Do it a couple times on each line, - sometimes this will push it %26quot;up tight%26quot; enough that when it bleeds out where the fitting is loose, the trapped air will flow back out that way. This depends on how much air entered the brake lines while master cyl. was off, -- and wheter it already has pushed air down further into lines when master cylinder was going bad!

When at least most of air is out of lines, the pedal should %26quot;come up%26quot; pretty good when you push it down, and if you pump it,- it generally doesn't raise much over an inch or so when you stop and hold it steady! After letting it off and waiting 4-5 seconds, - it should not go down real close to floor when you jam it down with out pumping! Of course all pumping and bleeding is done with engine running!-- Since this is %26quot;power brakes%26quot;............... Without engine running, pedal will be hard as a rock sometimes!

Now carefully test drive car, -- if brakes work right you are done, -- if not,- bleed some more from wheel cylinders!

Note Brake fluid is soluable with water, so a little dish soap and a water hose will wash it off siedwalk or driveway quite easily!

How do I know what brakes to get for my car?

I am looking to get brakes for my 1992 Camaro and I was wondering what does into picking the right discs and pads. The front brakes are my main concern. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!How do I know what brakes to get for my car?Go to an auto zone or a pep boys and tell them what you have. If you have access to mitchel or alldata (probably not) you could look up what brands and specs used by the manufacturer. It is always best to use original equipment that the manufacturer uses. If you are on a budget, these stores will give you cheaper options that will get the job done. If you are replacing the brakes yourself, you could also remove them, take them in and have them checked out, they may not need to be replaced yet, or maybe the rotors can just be turned and that will save you some sweet moo-lah!

Also! if they ask you what type of pads you want, like %26quot;Ceramics, Semi-metallic etc.%26quot; it all depends on preference.... Semi-metallic pads wear better, last longer, and stop a little better. Ceramic pads are quieter and give off less brake dust (if you've got fancy wheels). I'd just stick to one of those 2

How do you make a car's brakes more sensitive when you push the pedal?

I just installed brakes onto a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada. Now it does not make any noise and stops fine but you have to push the pedal just a little more than what feels right. I would like the brakes to react more to less of a push on the brake pedal. Please help!!! ThanksHow do you make a car's brakes more sensitive when you push the pedal?Did you make sure to fully bleed any air from the hydraulic lines? Top off the fluid in the master cylinder reservoir?

Some models feature a mechanical means to adjust pedal free-play, the amount of pedal travel required before the actuator rod is engaged. Some %26quot;funny%26quot; answers say to oil rims or brakes. Let them do it! That is plain dangerous. Always test your brakes after repair by pedalling slowly up hill, and gradually gain speed and change to a flatter terrain till you know you have adequate braking power.

Now as far as your question goes, any of the following could apply:

    - Setting properly the brake pads in contact with the rim is essential (toe in).

    - Dirt, water, etc. that has accumulated int he break pads or rim. Humid weather is a typical source of this kind of brake squeaking. Just cleaning the brake pads and rims should be enough. (No oil or grease).

    - Worn down or old brake pads. Just change them for new ones, it is not expensive or difficult.

I know brake squeaking can be annoying, but on the other hand, a small squeak can be a warning to pedestrians or heavier traffic! Can not be more optimistic about it.How do you stop bicycle brakes squealing? Most brake pads require a slight %26quot;toe-in.%26quot; That means when the brake is engaged that the rear of the pad touches the rim first. How much should I expect to pay for repair service on my brakes?

I own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. I've had it for almost four years, and this is the first time I've needed a repair job. The brakes make a grinding noise, so I haven't been using the car at all. You sure you don't have any friends that can do it?How much should I expect to pay for repair service on my brakes?Go on your local Craigslist and ask someone to fix your brakes -- it'll cost you maybe $100 to have someone do it.

If you have tools, do it yourself -- it's pretty trivial, generally all you need is a floor jack, jack stand, socket wrench with metric sockets, and a C-clamp.

Obviously jack it up and take the tire off, supporting the vehicle with a jackstand. The caliper is held on by two bolts on almost every vehicle. On most newer cars, you just need to remove the upper of the two bolts, and it'll swing out to replace the pads. Using an old pad and the C-clamp, compress the piston back in (It may be necessary to open the hood and loosen the brake reservoir cap -- this stuff will destroy paint fast!). Put the new pads on, swing it back in place, put everything back where you found it, and start the car -- Pump the brakes several times to built pressure back up.

If the rotor (disc) is significantly damaged, it'll need to be replaced. If it has faint light gouges, it should be fine.

Do it yourself, it'll cost about $25 for the pads and if the rotors are damaged, usually about $30 each. Have someone from Craigslist do it, you're looking at parts plus about $50, depending on who it is. Shops generally charge about $180-$250.

How do I stop my brakes from screeching?

When I ride my mountain bike, especially just around the yard, my brakes make a horrible screeching noise when I try to use them. What causes this? Can I stop it? It only does it when I apply pressure to the brakes, other than that they're normal. When me and my friends go riding, it's obnoxious. I just wanted to know if/how I can fix it.How do I stop my brakes from screeching? You do not need new brakes. All you have to do is toe them in a bit. Or you can spend your money to find most brakes will squeal if not toed in.You could also google why it's happening and find out the same.To toe them in you adjust them so the front of the pads grab first. If you have disc brakes they have a glaze on them that a fine sanding will cure.Best Wishes!

Single Legged Steve and the Surly LHTHow do I stop my brakes from screeching? You need to dial your brakes, keep your rims as clean as possible.Remove the brake pads and lightly sand the side that comes into contact with the rim(s) and replace. The main reason brakes seem to squeak is because they were not installed or dialed in properly and are just making contact with the rim but not enough pressure is applied to actually stop %26quot;on a dime%26quot; so to speak.

  • How many seconds after the driver applies the brakes does the car come to a stop?

The driver of a car traveling at 42 ft/s suddenly applies the breaks. The position of the car is s = 42t - 3t^2, t seconds after the driver applies the breaks. How many seconds after the driver applies the brakes does the car come to a stop?

    A. 294 sec

    B. 147 sec

    C. 7 sec

    D. 588 sec

Im not only trying to get the answer, which would be nice, but a brief explanation of how to knock this out =]How many seconds after the driver applies the brakes does the car come to a stop?If s = 42t - 3t^2 gives the postion of the car after a certain amount of seconds, we can use that to calculate where the car is at any given time

    After 1 sec s = 42(1) - 3(1^2) = 39

    After 2 sec s = 42(2) - 3(2^2) = 72

    After 3 sec s = 42(3) - 3(3^2) = 99

    After 6 sec s = 42(6) - 3(6^2) = 144

    After 7 sec s = 42(7) - 3(7^2) = 147

    After 8 sec s = 42(8) - 3(8^2) = 144

Which means that after 7 seconds have passed the car has come to a stop (assuming it's not moving backward as the formula technically suggests)

How much does it usually cost for front brakes?

I have to get my front brakes done next week, how much should I expect to spend? And what is too much? I will be calling around for the best price. How much does it usually cost for front brakes? You should tell us what kind of car. Ford and Chevy parts are cheap. Jaguar and Benz parts aren't.

Don't get the cheapest brakes. They are the loudest and will not last long. The pads will also warp the rotors quickly.

For a regular domestic or Asian car, look to spend up to $75 each on rotors (if they need to be replaced), and around $60 for a set of pads, plus shop supplies, plus labor costs. If you need to have the brake fluid replaced (should be done every 30,000 miles), that will cost $35 (Sears) to $80 (reputable shops).

So two rotors at $35 each, $60 pads, brake fluid bleeding...you're looking at $300.

If you replace just the pads, should be around $100, unless you get better quality pads (ceramic pads).

If you have a Japanese or European car, be careful. The mechanic might overtighten the wheels' lug nuts by using an impact wrench instead of manually tightening with a torque wrench. If this happens, the brake rotors will warp quickly, resulting in a vibrating steering wheel when braking. This happens because the lug nuts weren't torqued evenly in a star-shaped pattern. Also, it will be very difficult, sometimes impossible, to manually remove a wheel if you get a flat tire, and the lug nuts are overtightened. I specify Japanese and European cars because they are not supposed to be tightened as much as the bigger American cars. You need to find a mechanic who knows about this and cares about cars. How much does it usually cost for front brakes?a nice pair of brakes alone dont cost more than $30, rest is labor... which is pretty simple. How much will it be to replace brakes to my car?

I have a 97 Pontiac Sunfire, makes loud screeching noise, I think brakes need to be replaced. My friend says the rotors or drums (?) might need to be replaced too. I was wondering how much it would be to have it completely done at an auto shop, and how much it would be if I buy parts myself and have someone do it for me.How much will it be to replace brakes to my car?Which brakes are you doing, front or back (disks in front or drums in back)? Also depends on how much you are replacing - rotors, pads...

When I replaced just the front disk rotors (98 sunfire, just before I got rid of the non Mopar piece of crap) , it was $40 for the pair. I can't remember how much the pads were but they weren't expensive. I did it myself, so no extra expense to pay someone. Call your local Napa, Schucks, Auto Zone... They will give you the cost to purchase the parts on your own. And then pay off a (knowledgeable) friend with some beer to do the work for you. It will be A LOT cheaper than taking it anywhere. How much will it be to replace brakes to my car?about 10 to do it yourselfHow much will it be to replace brakes to my car?not too much, as long as you get them done now, before you wear grooves in the rotors.
