How much does it cost to replace back brakes?

I have a friend that is willing to sell me his '86 Camaro for a good price, but he said the back brakes need to be replaced. About how much does something like this cost? I really want the car, but can't afford to throw away a ton of money just to repair it to a driveable status. Thanks in advance for the help. How much does it cost to replace back brakes?I just paid $37.00 today for a rear set of pads for a trailblazer with disc brakes but I put them on myself, you can figure about $80 to $150 to have them replaced by a shop. How much does it cost to replace back brakes?depends on what he means the brakes wether its just the pads or new drums or rotor or whatever it has it really all depends on what you mean by %26quot;brakes%26quot;How much does it cost to replace back brakes? You can call your local car parts stores and get prices from them. That is your best bet to get an accurate estimate. Asking strangers who live all around the world will not get you an accurate answer. How much does it cost to replace back brakes? Now these are based out of a local California shop labor is from 80 to 92 depending on the shop the parts are 35 for the shoes and 45 for drums if you need them, you could just need to have the drums resurface. How much does it cost to replace back brakes?the shoes aren't expensive. the drums shouldn't be that bad ($20-60 each) the biggest problem is the labor charge you are looking at. if you can find a good repair manual, and you feel confident enough, you can try to replace them yourself, as long as it's either the drums or shoes. if it is the cylinders on the axles, you might want to just take it to a mechanic, as you would need to remove the drums and shoes in order to get to the cylinders.best bet is take it to a pep boys and they will take a look for about thirty bucks
