How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?

Some older cars have drum brakes on the rear. Those are the brakes that I am curious about. They seem to last forever.How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?Depends on how hard you brake, how much weight you carry in the back of your car, and how tightly adjusted are the rear brakes.

A lot of drivers can get double the mileage from their rear brakes before they need replacement, compared to the front brakes.

Front-wheel drive cars are more demanding on front brakes, while rear wheel drive cars are more forgiving and can go longer.

A quick inspection of the rear brakes should be done anytime you have the front brakes replaced. Look for broken springs, missing clips, excessive scoring inside the brake drums, leaking slave cylinders, etc. And make sure there is enough lining remaining on the shoes to make them effective at stopping your car. (The rivets holding the shoes should not be scraping the drums.)How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?I would say to have them inspected at least every 30K miles. It is important to be proactive about brake maintenance. If you wait until the brake shoe in the drum is burnt all the way to the metal it will damage the drum itself. Changing the brake shoes themselves is relatively cheap especially if you do it yourself. Things get expensive when the drum gets damaged and has to be turned in a machine shop or replaced depending on the extent of the damage. If at an inspection my shoes have 30% or less of there original life left in them I replace them.

Front breaks wear faster than rear breaks so be sure to inspected the front and rear brakes.How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?The reason the rear drums last longer is the majority of the braking is done with the front brakes. As far as an estimate of the mileage it can vary dependent mostly on driving habits. I wouldn't be surprised if rear brake shoes could last up to 60-70K. To be on the safe side they should be checked at regular intervals to ensure they are in satisfactory condition though.How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?usually 2 front to 1 back. If the rear brakes are properly adjustedHow often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?The front brakes on cars do most of the work in stopping a car. It's not uncommon for rear brakes to last as much as 100K miles.

I have a '67 Chevy with 240 K miles that I've had since new and I'v only replaced the rear drum brakes twice.How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?Rear brakes do much less work than the front ones do so they tend to last much longer. There is no average replacement interval though. All brakes should be inspected at regular intervals -- every other oil change is a good interval -- and repaired or replaced as needed.How often should rear brakes be replaced on a car?a lot of times, rear brakes do last a long time

this is often because the brakes are designed to put more pressure on the front brakes (particularly if the back brakes are drum and the front are disc - my first cars had drum brakes front and back)

although you should check your brakes regularly, there is no reason to replace brake shoes until they are worn out

so, if they last forever, they last forever

because there are other parts of the brake (besides the pad) that can wear out (thinks like seals on the cylinder, and some springs) it is good to have the brakes looked at periodically

  • How long will it take to replace brakes and rotors in my car?

    I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my friend and I will be putting in new brakes and rotors. He knows what he's doing and has done it before. How long do you think it will take?How long will it take to replace brakes and rotors in my car?one good afternoon with the proper tools and assuming everything comes off and goes on easily.How long will it take to replace brakes and rotors in my car?All 4 or just front? How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?

    I just bought a used car and noticed that the car's brakes are slow to respond. I took it to a mechanic and they said I needed new front brake pads and resurfacing, which the dealer covered.

    But the brakes are still slow to respond after the work. The pedal is stiff and I can press the brake all the way down and not have it stop completely...it will still gradually come to a stop. How do I increase the braking speed?How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?Either you have air in your brake lines and the brake lines need to be properly bleed to remove all air.

    Or you have a faulty brake master cylinder.How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?check your brake fluid

    details

    you press the pedal the fluid from the master cylinder goes to the brake cylinders and applies a force on the brake cylinders the brake cylinders push the calipers in and the calipers push the pads in and the pads push on the rotors using friction to slow them down. i dont no if you can do this to increase your brake response but i think you need to move your brake cylinder closer to the rotor or move your rotor closer to your brake cylinder this will cause you to need less brake travel to create friction between rotor and pad

    i think that is how you increase brake response i am not sureHow do I increase the performance of my car brakes?try punching the breaks as in presssing then releasing and pressing again. repet this when you want to break. they say its what you should do in wet weather it might work for you.How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?the hydraulic (liquid) system sounds like its not building enough pressure, could be faulty parts like a brake booster on older cars or air is being pulled into the system reducing pressure build up. if they checked it over well and found no problems a %26quot;brake bleed%26quot; is neccessary not something for the first timer so ask a friend %26quot;backyard mechanic%26quot; to bleed the line while you pump up the pedal, pushing air out , raising the pedal height and increasing pressure and ultimately stopping power. or you can pay a shop too much money to do the sameHow do I increase the performance of my car brakes?A stiff or heavy pedal can be caused by the brake servo not working. This would severely reduce your braking power. If the pedal goes down to the floor this could be a bad leak somewhere. Master cylinder seals or rear brakes. Check your brake fluid level. If its going down you got a leak. If i were you i would take it back and tell them to fix it or give me my money back. Pumping the pedal is a very short term solution because if you do have a leak your fluid will be gone after 10 to 20 pumps and then you got no brakes at all.How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?Have the mechanic check them and the back brakes to. The wheels should be locking up if you floor the pedal. Maybe they didn't bleed the brakes right, or the back brakes are going out, so the front is doing all th work. This can be dangerous when you really need them.How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?Well bleeding the brakes is just getting the air out when you change the calipers or wheel cylinders hoses or flush the old fluid when your system gets opened basically. Depending on what you drive you may be able to get cross drilled rotors they are more responsive due to the fast they dissipate the heat and pressurized gas that forms between the pad and rotor there usually available at a parts store or like summit on-line. They cost the same as a good quality replacement rotor.How do I increase the performance of my car brakes?I agree with the above theory that you have air in the lines. you need to %26quot;bleed%26quot; your brakes. How much should I pay for brakes on my car?

    I have a Volvo s40, 75000 miles 2006. A local gas station wants to charge me 725 for front and rear brakes and resurfacing of the rotors. I live in ny and

    this includes tax. Is this alot for for a small place that is not Volvo dealer? If so, how much should I be paying?How much should I pay for brakes on my car?That is too much in my opinion.

    Not sure how picky you are about such things but I happened to find a mechanic on craigslist who did side jobs on the weekends. I was kind of leery at first but it worked out great. I've had no problems at all with them and it's been almost a year.

    I did buy new rotors for the front at the auto parts store, as they really weren't much money. I figured it would save on some time too, so he didn't have to turn them.

    I know craigslist is a gamble sometimes, but this time it worked out for me and I paid him $50 to do the front brakes. Honestly, have not had a problem.How much should I pay for brakes on my car?whoa, that's pretty high for a ford or chevy, but with a volvo parts probably cost more. i call around to a few other shops and get estimates, i believe meinike (im sure i spelled that wrong) and sears would give you a straight estimate, and can give it to you over the phone.How much should I pay for brakes on my car?its depends where are you go to dealer they charge about $1000 dollars but retail auto mechanic you will pay around $500 most.How much should I pay for brakes on my car?thats pretty pricey lol...

    How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?

    When you hit the brake pedal, the front disc brakes engage to stop the car but does hitting the brake pedal also engage the rear brakes? I understand that the hand brake is connected to the rear brakes. I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?The master cylinder has a dual reservoir. when you hit the brakes it hydraulically activates both the front %26amp; rear brakes. The hand brake is in case of hydraulic failure %26amp; for parking (it is mechanical not hydraulic) Good luck.

    No slack adjuster on disc brakes.

    Disc brakes are not pulled back by springs when you release the pedal. Drum brakes use springs to retact the brake shoes because gravity %26amp; design require it to keep them from wearing out prematurely. As long as the slide %26amp; the caliper piston are working freely the disc brakes will not wear prematuely.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?On internet, go to- how stuff works- in address bar. there you will find many catagories. you will find a section dealing with automotive type questions. it is really very enlightening, try it! The answer you seek is rather consuming, and diffucult to explain here, so how stuff works is your better bet.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?Sorry you bought a Nissan. All of the USA's wealth is going to the far east.

    However, these systems all work the same. Pushing the brake pedal sends many pounds of fluid pressure to what's called the %26quot;slave%26quot; cylinder. In front, the pistons in the slave push the pads hard against the rotating disk. In the rear, the pistons push out, so that the round pads press outward hard against the revolving drum.

    Your emergency brake probably does not depend upon the fluid pressure from the %26quot;master%26quot; cylinder. Instead, it uses a cable to pull the rear pads against the revolving metal rings (called the brake %26quot;drum%26quot;). It is designed to help stop the car, even if you have lost all fluid somehow.

    If your car is old, maybe you should not use the emergency brake at all. The cable can seize inside its guide, and the rear pads won't release fully. Then drums get hot while driving, and you eventually ruin your rear pads, or %26quot;shoes.%26quot;

    Hope this helped a little.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?I'm surprised this car doesn't have 4 wheel disc brakes.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?The hand brake, when set, causes the rear brake shoes to expand through a mechanical linkage. When the brake pedal is depressed, the system is hydraulically pressurized causing the front calipers and rear brake shoes to expand.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?The front brakes are applied the first part of the pedal such as slowing down when the the brakes are fully applied then the rear brakes are applied that's why you have either 2 brake lines coming out of the master cylinder. The one closest to the firewall is for the front brakes and the outer one is for the rear . you will usually wear out front brakes about 20,000 before the rear.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?The hydraulic activity within your braking system has steel lines within 6 - 8 inch of your rear brake backing plates or disc caliper. Brake hoses connect pressure in the lines to either expand the brake shoes or squeeze the caliper pads with an internal caliper piston. Inside a rear brake drum a hydraulic wheel cylinder expands on both ends to engage the brake shoes to the brake drums. An emergency brake is always mechanically hooked to either the shoe mechanism or a mechanical lever on the rear caliper.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?The front brakes do not have a slack adjuster it does appear that they would always be draging but they are not. there is a gap a couple thousands of an inch between the rotor and the brake pad the gap is so small you cannot see it and water cannot get between the rotor and the pad that is why disc brakes work fine when wet, unlike drum brakes.How do the rear/drum brakes on a car work w/the brake pedal?Yes, that's why they put them there.

    Without rear brakes your car would take longer to stop.

    If the rear brakes do not feel as they are working, probably need adjusting. There are slack adjuster on the rear shoes. Usually there is a cut out on the backing plate to enable you to insert a screwdriver through.

    Only adjust so the shoes are slightly dragging.

    How do you adjust hydraulic disc brakes on a mountain bike?

    I need to adjust my front caliper, it's a little tight, but I am not sure how to even go about that. I have Tektro Auriga Comp hydro brakes. I have a manual transmission 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. The parking brakes are not working. I'm wondering how much does it cost to get it fixed. If you had your parking brakes fixed in your car, how much did it cost? I'm trying to get a range estimate.How much does it cost to get the parking brakes working again?ok this si a little tricyer than the first question. If you know about the brake system on your car, look for the adjustment hole on the back (inner) side of your brake drums at the rear of the vehicle. You will need a long sturdy flat head screwdriver. Inside the hole is a wheel with teeth on it. using those teeth as leverage rotate the wheel upwards (depending on which side of the vehicle you are on this will be both clockwise and counter, so always in an upward motion) try about 5 clicks then try the e-brake. back and forth until it works, after about 25 clicks or so you might want to have a professional inspect the brakes. Once again best of luck!!!How much does it cost to get the parking brakes working again?It depends on what's wrong with the brakes. May have a broken cable, bad shoes, only needs adjustment, etc.

    Why don't you buy a book for it and fix it yourself, along with the flasher?How much does it cost to get the parking brakes working again?if it only needs to be adjusted do it yourself free then but

    if they stop-ed working suddenly adjustment wont helpHow much does it cost to get the parking brakes working again?All these answers are right. But if you have 4 wheel disk brakes the one about the adjustment hole on your rear brakes only applies to ones with rear drum brakes. other than that they are right.

    How can I get the front brakes on my bike from rubbing against the tire?

    A kid messed with my bike and now the front brakes on it slightly rub against the tire, causing it to slow down much faster. How can I adjust them to fix this problem? Also the tire itself seems a little loose.How can I get the front brakes on my bike from rubbing against the tire?It might not be the brakes. Check these 2 below before adjusting the brakes.

    1. Check that the wheel is firmly attached and aligned properly. Place bike on the ground. If it has a quick release lever then release it, make sure the axle is firmly in the fork, and then close the lever making sure there is medium resistance. The medium resistance ensures that the lever won't simply vibrate open. If it has axle nuts get a properly fitting wrench, loosen both nuts first and then tighten down.

    2. Check the straightness of the wheel. Do this by spinning the wheel and watching for a wobble side to side. If it wobbles a lot, that is from one brake pad to the other, go to your local bike shop and get you wheels trued.

    If neither problem above exists, then adjust your brakes.

    For V or long arm brakes, see the first link

    For cantilevers, see second link

    For race bike sidepull brakes (ones where the arms reach from the top and pinch the wheel like a hand and thumb), see 3rd link

    If all this doesn't help or is the least bit confusing, go to your local bike shop. They should be able to help you easily and quickly if it is a single simple thing.How can I get the front brakes on my bike from rubbing against the tire?take plyers and pull them apart duhHow can I get the front brakes on my bike from rubbing against the tire?First check to make sure your front wheel is properly seated and bolted into your forks. Once the front wheel is in place you can begin adjusting your brake. Depending on what type of brake you have, you can adjust it from side to side in different ways. For a cantilever style brake there are little screws on each side that adjust the spring tension; just a small turn to either side will make a big difference. For a u-brake (old bmx style) you'll need to tighten and subsequently loosen the rear bolt until the pads are even.

    good luck

    How much would it cost to remove drum brakes and replace with disc brakes?

    My car is a 2002 Vauxhall Astram Mk4 with 5 doors. Its a 1.6 8v. It currently has rear drums fitted and I want them replacing with disc brakes.How much would it cost to remove drum brakes and replace with disc brakes?It isn't worth the trouble and expense. The car is factory designed to brake with discs at the front and drums at the rear. If you are successful you will only achieve an imbalance in the braking and will probably find that the rear wheels lock and lose grip. Not a practical proposition.How much would it cost to remove drum brakes and replace with disc brakes?Find the same type car in a breakers yard, and get all the bits you need off the donor car. Don't forget the handbrake cables either, and remember, they fitted Bosch and Lucas rear brake calipers, only fit them in matching pairs. To be honest, the drum is a far more reliable brake for a parking brake. A lot of work for little gain, you will also need to replace brake pipes and hoses, and if theres a load valve fitted, that will also need removing, and that is above the rear axle, all this stuff is matched at the factory, you might even need the master cylinder. Do you have ABS? Most of the all disc Astras had it, but not all the disc/drum ones did. Best of luck.

Don't wait until the last second to stop for a light or stop sign, let off the gas and let the cars engine slow you down. That's called engine braking. It can almost double the life of your pads. Also when you do get new pads make sure the rotors and or drums are machined. This will give you a lot more life also. It give the pads more grip and less heating. OH! and you can also drive slow like the other post says...How can I make the brakes on my car last longer?Well, maintainence on the brakes is crucial (brake fluid, making sure nothing is loose), but other thing can affect brake performance, and they can range from simple habit changes to repairs that cost a bit of money.

    First: habit changes - try to drive the speed limit or with the flow of traffic.

    Try to be 2 - 3 seconds behind the car in front of you (when the guy in front of you passes an object, count the seconds until you pass it, if it is 2-3 then you are good),

    when you see a red light, start slowing farther away by takign your foot off the gas and using the brake when you get closer.

    When you see a green light that looks like it will change soon or has the crosswalk symbol flashing a hand, start to slow down, because the light will probably change

    finally, try not to use your brakes or accelerator going downhill, unless you have to slow down or speed up to keep up with traffic.

    Repairs you can do to your car: keep up on your brake fluid, this can make a huge difference.

    When you get your tires changed, have the shop adjust the brakes to ensure they don't wear prematurely.

    Keep up on your tires, which means keeping them properly inflated and changing/rotating them to get the maximum treadwear

    Finally, chane your shocks/struts every 50,000 miles, because this will really help your braking performance.How can I make the brakes on my car last longer?it is normal for the duration of usage of a brake wear and tear to last 6 months to a year your situation is just normal that you change brake at a ratio of 1 brake maintenance in two years depending on how many mileage you run the Car.well that's quite impressive there is nothing wrong with your driving hence i advice you that you have it check twice in a year. prevention and maintenance is better than sorry.How can I make the brakes on my car last longer?QUIT RIDING YOUR BRAKES!!!How can I make the brakes on my car last longer?whoa there, I,ve never heard of brakes, that either the pads or rotars wearing %26quot;out%26quot;%26quot; in 6months or a year without either the calipers not releasing fully most of the time or some kind of extreme usage. How much should it cost to have my brakes repaired?

    I don't want to be ripped off! I've put my 2004 Ford Ka in to be serviced and been told the brakes need repaired. Before I go back to get it (and the bill) I'd like to know how much roughly they'll charge me. It's the front and back brakes that need sorted.How much should it cost to have my brakes repaired?best bet is doing it yourself, disk brakes are pretty easy need a few sockets and a 6 inch c-clamp . iv'e seen where some shops will buy a set then only replace one wheel so in 6 months or less you will have to do it again.How much should it cost to have my brakes repaired?If you take it to a break shop , Here in Ga It about $90.00 per wheel, break-0 You might check around and get a better price. hope this helpsHow much should it cost to have my brakes repaired?It can range from to 226-250 dollars for kits but seperate pieces are pretty cheap! How do I adjust my brakes on a road bike?

    Look at the calipers. Just above where the cable attaches to the calipers, you're going to see a barrel adjuster. Turn the adjuster counterclockwise as you look down on it. This should back the adjuster out toward you, and tighten.

    Try the brakes....they should be better.

    P.S. make sure the lever that opens the brakes so you can get your tire off easily is closed. It's a cam-like thing, and is the rear-most piece of metal on the calipers.

    How hard is it to add hand brakes to a cruiser bike with coaster brakes?

    How do you calculate work done by brakes to bring a bike and the rider to a stop?

    A 70kg bicyclist rides a 10kg bike with speed 10m/s. How much work must be done by the brakes to bring the bike and rider to a stop? How far does the bicycle travel if it takes 5secs to come to rest. What is the magnitude of the braking force?How do you calculate work done by brakes to bring a bike and the rider to a stop?Work = energy = force * distance

    The energy of a moving bike + biker is in the form of kinetic energy.

    Kinetic Energy = (1/2) m v^2

    m = mass = mass of bike + mass of biker

    m = 10 + 70

    m = 80kgs

    v = 10m/s

    Kinetic energy = 0.5 * 80 * 10 * 10

    Work done = 4000 J

    Find the distance travelled by an accelerating body:

    We know that final velocity (v) = initial velocity (u) + acceleration (a) * time (t)

    v = u + at

    Final velocity = 0 - we've stopped.

    Initial velocity = 10 m/s

    Time = 5 seconds

    0 = 10 + 5a

    a = -2 m/s^2

    Now we know the acceleration, we can find the distance we went in those 5 seconds.

    Distance (s) = ut + (1/2)at^2

    s = 10 *5 + (1/2) (-2) (5 * 5)

    s = 50 - 25

    s = 25m

    Work = Force * distance

    4000 = F * 25

    F = 4000 / 25

    F = 160 N

    The other way to get force is from the equation

    Force (F) = mass (m) * acceleration (a)

    F = ma

    F = 80 * -2 = -160 N

    Magnitude of Force = 160 N

    How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?

    I have a Nissan Pathfinder, but would like to know the general rule of thumb to have automotive brakes inspected and possibly shoes %26amp; pads replaced in order to avoid complete replacement of rotors and brakes every couple of years.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?As your car ages and the forces of friction and heat take their toll on brake components, your braking system will gradually begin to lose some of its effectiveness. To keep your vehicle safe, you need to keep your brakes properly serviced, and the first step in that process is a brake inspection.

    The main elements of the brake system should be checked about every 10,000 miles or so. How frequently you check may depend on a number of factors such as the age of your vehicle, the type of braking system, the terrain where you live and the manner in which you drive. Someone who lives in a hilly area like San Francisco will wear through brakes more frequently than someone living in Santa Fe, for example, because of constant braking to slow or remain stationary on hills. Likewise, people who tend to ride the brake pedal will cause their brakes to wear out prematurely. Mileage that you put on your car driving in city traffic -- with all of its stops and starts -- is harder on brakes than highway mileage. On average, it's a good idea to check your brakes at least once a year, but it certainly won't hurt to do it more frequently.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?12 to 15,000 mile inspection.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?Most places will check your brakes when you get your oil changed. Oil changes are recommened every 3 months of 3000 miles.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?Depends on your driving habits and situations. City driving? 10K mile inspection..longer for highway...

    Lifetime pads..avoid them... Use lifetime pads and the pads don't wear..the rotors wear. Pads are supposed to wear out...just keep them inspected for proper service levels and replace them before you hit metal to metal and destroy rotors.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?Go to tire rack .com.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?I have a tendency to live by the concept:

    If it is not broke, don't fix it.

    Notice that every time you get your oil changed they bring the air filter in to show you how it could probably be replaced? The same is true with these free 24 point inspections that companies offer. They want to look at your car, with your permission, just so they can find things that could use replacing. Their favorite target area? Your brake system.

    As a result, I typically do not allow anyone to look for problems in my brake system unless I know something is wrong.

    However if you want to have your brakes inspected for wear, ask them to just make sure the rotors look good the next time you have your tires rotated. The wheels are coming off anyway and a quick wipe with the hand by the mechanic is the simplest way to let you know if you might want to have your brakes inspected further.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?Pull the right side wheels (front %26amp;rear) once per year minimum. Usable pad thickness can be seen at the ends or on top of the brake calipers. If you feel you aren't seeing them well enough squeeze the outer exposed pad inward with a C clamp or Jorgonson carpenter's slider clamp. Remove the two anchor bolts that hold the caliper on to the caliper bracket. The caliper pulls straight off they will be on top of the caliper bracket in slides or stuck in slides inside the caliper. The pad thickness is measured with a depth gauge to the steel backing plate or a vernier caliper using the tail end, using it as a depth gage. Minumum thichness is as low as .060 some cars are higher - .090.

    There's no way on this earth to properly inspect the brakes unless the tires and wheels are off the car.How often should I have my brakes serviced in order to avoid replacing them every couple years?Use premium pads and rotors.and a very reputable shop.If you live in a mountainous region,lots of big hills,lots of hard braking,frequent repairs are normal.Adjust your driving habits,do not jab brakes alot,long slow stops as opposed to short ,fast stops(like 90% of drivers today).....your brakes will last longer.

    How do I know when the magnets in my electric trailer brakes are worn out?

    My Dexter electric trailer brakes on my travel trailer are size 10%26quot; x 1 1/2%26quot;.

    Electric current causes a magnet to contact the inside of the brake drum to engage a lever that pushes the brake shoes against the drum to slow down the trailer. Can the contact surfaces of both the magnet and the brake drum be machined flat to achieve a better contact area? How much of the metal surface of the magnet can be removed before it becomes useless?How do I know when the magnets in my electric trailer brakes are worn out?You don't ever machine the magnets. Occasionally the drums will need to be turned to remove grooving that occurs naturally from break wear. The magnets or more correctly the brake actuators are replaced as a set. There are however a few checks that you need to do first. First question is, Do you have Surge brakes or a truck mounted controller? If you have surge brakes there should be an LED on the top when you plug it in to your vehicle it should come on to tell you if the brakes are working or not. If you have a truck mounted brake controller, you should also have an indicator light on the front of the module. With the truck mounted controller you have the added option of a brake lever.(A spring loaded slide switch on the front of the unit and an adjustment wheel usually located on the side of the unit. Set the adjustment wheel to maximum setting after hooking the trailer up. Pull forward slowly and pull the slide lever to manually activate the brakes. If your trailer wheels lock and drag then the brakes are working properly. reset them back to there normal setting where you can just feel a little pull on the trailer when you engage the manual slider. The magnets as a rule almost never wear out. Usually the drums or the pads or the mechanical parts fail long before the magnets will ever fail to work. More than likely you have a broken wire or your controller has failed for some reason. Surge brakes are prone to controller failure and a truck mounted unit is easier to check for failure than a surge type. Personally I prefer the truck mounted unit as it is more adaptable to different loads and can be manually adjusted for heavier loads. As to the magnets, I have never had a failure and i have used and worked on hundreds of these types of brakes. You might have some corrosion around the solenoid where the piston moves in and out of the magnets which will stop it from working. My main advise is if you do not have experience with this type of brake system then take it to a professional. You need both mechanical and electrical experience to work on these systems beyond the basic checks I have described above.How do I know when the magnets in my electric trailer brakes are worn out?no more then 100 thous of an inchuse your desgression heres a link read page 10 http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/6-8KHow do I know when the magnets in my electric trailer brakes are worn out?cant be resurfaced. the only way to tell if bad, is to pull tire and drum and visually inspect alot can be ground off, most common problem is one of the wires breaks close enough to the magnet as it cant be spliced

    How soon do brakes and tires need to be replaced on a Toyota RAV4?

    My 2006 RAV4 needed brakes and new tires after only 2 years with approx. 25,000 miles. Is this normal? I know that it depends on your driving habits but I've never needed these things done on any other vehicle I have owned.How soon do brakes and tires need to be replaced on a Toyota RAV4?you done good on mileage you really cant use mileage as a factor in some cases ,because some people have to use the brakes more than others do,so you cant always go by the amount of miles on a car,go by the amount that you have to use the brakes,25 thousand is good for a set of brakes though on any car,good luck.How soon do brakes and tires need to be replaced on a Toyota RAV4?That isn't very good mileage on the tires. The only way to be sure is to take the vehicle to get a manual and check the brakes and tires for wear yourself, have a friend do it, or take it to several garages for estimates, get their opinion and price, write their name and what they said down, thank them and go to the next garage, etc., or take it to the dealer, who will be right but very expensive.

    Did you check the tires yourself with a penny? Just insert the penny, with Lincoln's hair first, into a typical crack in the tread. The rubber should reach to the top of Lincoln's head or more. When it doesn't, that is time to replace your tire.

    Looking ahead and braking long and gently rather than short and hard will greatly extend the life of your brakes. Taking turns gently will extend the life of your tires. You will be able to get a better idea of your relative tire life after you put a new set of tires on with some kind of definite mileage warranty--40,000 mile, 90,000 mile, etc. and see how those last. I'm sure they will do fine. I have had two Toyotas, a Honda, a Hyundai and a Kia, and have nothing but praise for them.

    Best regards,

  • How often should I get my brakes replaced?

    I have an 08 Dodge caravan, It had very low mileage and 3 months ago I got the brakes down. Im suspicious though, it seems awfully new to need new brakes. I don't drive very far and very seldom on a lot of hills.How often should I get my brakes replaced?these days you really don't have to drive hard or fast ,the brakes just wear out on them from normal use,if you can get 15 to 20 thousand from a set of brakes now days your doing real good,every time you touch that brake pedal the brake wears down a little more on it,and over the years it adds up,and one other thing,some of the newer vehicles have been reported to have premature brake wear on them,i have seen some need replacing with less than 12 thousand miles on them,this set will probably last as long if not longer than the first set did,good luck with it.How often should I get my brakes replaced?Thank you dodge man, what you said makes a lot of since.

    Report Abuse

    How often should I get my brakes replaced?Well my rule of thumb if you're light on the brakes , meaning you use the gas paddle mostly to slow down etc and you've mid grade or quality brake parts is every 3 to 5 years they'd require some sort of replacement parts.

    Again it all depends on how hard of a driver ppl are on their brakes but I check and over haul my brakes at least once a year and on the average I end up replacing them about every 3 to 5 years.So to me unless the brakes were done wrong or certain parts weren't changed when the brakes were last worked on I find 3 months a little too soon , unless again you had previous brake problems or the work wasn't done right.

    Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way what all parts were changed and how much did you end up paying for the last brake work you had done? Also I'd want a second and even a 3rd opinion and estimate , plus have them fully explain and show you the parts etc that are faulty , plus it might help you to ask for the old parts whenever you get work done.How often should I get my brakes replaced?Depends on how and where you drive. Could vary from 20-80,000 miles.How often should I get my brakes replaced?It really depends on how and where you drive. Do a lot of highway driving, you can get a lot of mileage out the brakes. Do mostly city driving and the mileage intervals go down dramatically.

    How do you set the adjusters on drum brakes when you replace the brake linings?

    Opel Astra has rear drum brakes with adjusters. I replaced the brake linings but what do I need to do with the adjusters?How do you set the adjusters on drum brakes when you replace the brake linings?If they are %26quot;self adjusting%26quot; they should have a sort of gear on them with a small arm like piece or cable that %26quot;connects%26quot; in a way to the brake linings and pulls when the brakes are applied. If this is the case, just tighten them enough to stay in place, and after pumping the brakes a few times they should have adjusted themselves. If they are not self adjusting, there should be a access hole in the front of the drum or the back of the housing you can see the adjusters through. If that's the case, put the drum on and tighten the adjusters through the hole until the brakes barely grab, then back them off about half a turn. To do this, you will probably need to use two small screwdrivers. One to turn the adjuster and one to release the the catch that holds that adjuster in place. Living in the U.S., I'm not too sure how old an Opel Astra could be, but unless it's from the 60s or 70s, it's brakes are probably self adjusting.How do you set the adjusters on drum brakes when you replace the brake linings?You'll need to adjust the shoes so that they are just dragging slightly on the drums so there isn't too much brake pedal travel before the shoes hit the drum. Usually there is a slot in the backing plate for inserting a special tool (or a screwdriver) to turn the star wheel either up or down to expand the shoes out. After you've gotten the shoes fairly snug against the drum, step on the brake pedal hard a few times to get the shoes centered in the drum, then tighten the adjusters so you can barely turn the drum, then back them off a little until there is just a slight drag.

    It's always a good idea to disassemble the adjusters and clean the threads really well with a wire brush, then applying some anti-seize compound (the copper-colored stuff is the best).How do you set the adjusters on drum brakes when you replace the brake linings?Run the pads out(with the adjusters) just till the drum will slide on.This will get you into the ball-park of near ideal operation. Check your owners manual on how to allow the self-adjusting mechanism to be set during your driving it. Some manuals say that it adjusts as you back-up and others say to apply the E-brake as you back-up or move forward. Be Sure nothing is dragging or set when you expect it all to be free. If the car is driven, with the rear brakes engaged and locked, fire will ensue! Think it all through first-before you assume anything.

    Pardon for being outdated but I own an old Corolla '93 XL. I seem to be having problems with the brakes and I can't really get the feel of stopping every time I would adjust it from the brake shoe or the master kit itself. Every time I bleed, there's a momentary stop to it but as time progresses, it goes back to its old self. Many people advise me to take it from the wheel but the only thing is I don't know how. I just want to know how to bleed it from the tires, specifically all four. Thanks a lot, guys!How do you bleed your brakes from the tires?On the back side of the brake backing plate there is a fitting with an opening on the end and a place to use a small wrench to unscrew it. You need to put a small tube on this and run it into a clear jar with a little brake fluid in it. With someone pushing the brake pedal lightly, open this fitting a little until fluid comes out, you may see some air bubbles. Close the fitting before they let off the brake. Repeat this until you have flushed enough fluid out to be sure you have no air in the line. Repeat on the other three wheels. Or maybe they want you to score out the rotors so they can charge you $1000+ to replace them.How do I get rid of squeaky brakes?could be worn out and just need replacing or some brakes are just noisy. you can get a backing plate that goes between the pad and calliper or this other silicone type stuff thats applied to the back of the pad. in either case you have to take it apart and no guarantee it will work. the stuff should be avbl at local auto parts supplierHow do I get rid of squeaky brakes?brake noise is simply a high frequency vibration, usually the pads. Some brake pads are more prone to squeaking due to the material composition, such as a harder material. You can try switching brake pads to an organic compound but they wear out very fast due to the softer material composition. If there is a lot of brake pad left, I would suggest having someone remove the brake pads and apply either a noise suppression shim to the back of the pads, or you can use brake quiet material that is applied to the back of the pads where they come in contact with the piston in the caliper for the inboard pad, and where they contact the caliper itself for the outboard pad. it's a gooey substance that is applied to the pad and when it solidifies, it holds the pads stationary to eliminate brake noise. Brake rotors are not to be replaced for brake noise unless there is excessive grooving in the rotor face or pitting. I would take it to someone and ask them to FIX the noise, not just inspect the brakes and look for worn pads. In the majority of cases, the noise can be easily corrected. I know, my car used to sound like a school bus coming to a stop until I used the disc brake quiet fix.How do I get rid of squeaky brakes?This is too easy, but really an industry wide problem. So when the mechanic says %26quot;this is normal%26quot; some of that is true.

    about 12 years or so ago, the EPA forced brake pad manufactures to eliminate the asbestos in the brake linings (pads). This however made them weak and squeak.

    The solution was to make them %26quot;semi-metallic%26quot; (adding metal shavings) so to speak to the pad material.

    Now the pads squeak due to brake dust (the pads wear alot faster than they use to).

    The best remedy: try a set of non-OEM pads (aftermarket) from O'reillys etc. ask them the best replacement for your car...some times people have to try two or three different pads to stop it. Trust me, one of them will...and pads are cheap!How do I get rid of squeaky brakes?the brakes on your car probably squeek because of a high metalic content in the friction material the best way to make it stop is replace your front pads with a ceramic padHow do I get rid of squeaky brakes?Squeaky pads are due to one of what could be many things!

    Firstly Dust, or worn pads/brake shoes. Mostly brake squeal is from pads more so than that of brake shoes.

    This is generally caused due to movement of the brake pad what you hear is a very high frequency sound. The way around this problem is usually copper slip. This is copper grease which is a high melting point grease. It is only applied to the pad which makes ontact with the caliper piston or on the shim between pad and piston. I have used this method on many vehicles and it has never failed me!

    Noticed this when front started making a kinda thumping sound? Not sure how to explain, brakes still work fine.Left parking brakes halfway down drove about 30 minutes What damage will thisdo?Hey Brenda, we've all done it so don't feel bad. The rear brake pads / shoes are manually gripped to the brake rotor or drum, depending on if ya have rear disc brakes or drum and thye may have got a little heate up and possibly %26quot;Glazed%26quot; meaning a mechanic could remove them and with some sandpaperrough up your brake shoeor pad and do the same to your rotor / drum an if thats required then just get new brake pads / shoes installed. Since everything still stops OK, then I'd say you are OKLeft parking brakes halfway down drove about 30 minutes What damage will thisdo?need to check brakes shoes, pads, rotors, drums

    How can i stop the brakes on my old cruiser from sticking?

    I don't know anything about bikes, but I've got and old scwinn cruiser with bad brakes. The problem is that when they squeeze shut the side that the brake cable doesn't goto stays against the wheel rim. It's that same for front and back and I can't figure out how to get them to pull back after i stop squeezing the brake.How can i stop the brakes on my old cruiser from sticking?There are a number of things that could be wrong here. Let me start by saying that when dealing with brakes, I always suggest going to a bike shop if you don't know how to fix it. But in any case....the cable could be not freely traveling within the housing. It could be rusted or just need to lube. Try injecting some lubricant in the housing from both sides. See if that frees it up. Next, try shooting some lube into the pivot points of the brake. This could get seized up too. Finally, the spring that holds the brake caliper apart could be disengaged. Look for a spring sticking out. Hope that helps....good luck!

    How much will it cost to replace brakes?

    I had my '97 chevy lumina brought into the shop for another problem a few weeks ago that was fixed. My mechanic mentioned that the front brakes will need to be done, but I could wait a little while to replace them. He didn't go into great detail, but I assume that he was talking about the pads. Recently the front brakes have been making a loud squeaking noise when I apply my foot to the brakes. Does anyone have any idea how much getting the front brakes done would cost and how much longer I can wait to have them done.How much will it cost to replace brakes?Roughly a hundred dollars per axle. Unless you do it yourself then about $50 per axle and an entire day.How much will it cost to replace brakes?if they just need new pads, it should be $200-$300 dollars or so,

    as for how long you can wait, ask the mechanic who looked at them first, or take it someplace and have a brake inspection done (almost any place that does brakes offers free inspections). They should give you a % of pad wear, 0% would be no pads left at all, so you will want to replace them by the time they are at 25% or so. The place that does your inspection should be able to tell you about how much longer they will last.How much will it cost to replace brakes?You should have them replaced soon. The squeaking noise you hear is like an alarm built into the pads. There is a metal tab that starts to rub on the rotor when the pads are worn down. Brakes are very easy to do if you have a few tools and the abiltiy.... try it yourself. Once you get good at it, it will only take you about an hour to replace them. If you take it in it will cost you a little more than $100. Good luckHow much will it cost to replace brakes?Really depends on the grade of frount breaks you buy.

    THere are breaks

    There are semi metalic

    There is full metalic

    Then there was ceremic

    If you have it done and you dont need rotors, about 100-150How much will it cost to replace brakes?Midas $89 an axle. This actually means per wheel. More if they talk you into rotors, brake lines or a master cylinder.

    You can do this yourself also. You'll need a set of allen wrenches or Star wrenches, a hammer and a C clamp. You'll also need to find a local parts dealer that turns rotors. Disk brake pads are not really that hard to changeHow much will it cost to replace brakes?My mechanic charged me $160. But I also needed new rotors. However, I think most places charge more. Call around for the best rate.How much will it cost to replace brakes?If you need new rotors it will be more money, if you ride on them with bad pads for too long, you can pretty much guarantee that you will need new rotors.

    I wouldn't wait too long. It varies from place to place. Call a couple of local places and ask about pads. And then ask about pads and rotors.How much will it cost to replace brakes?That really does depend on the vehicl in question, i had a car a few years back and it only cost $65.00 then the car I have now cost almost $150.00.

    How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?

    I own a 2004 Pontiac Vibe. It is the base model and an automatic. I bought it used in February 2005 so I don't know when the brakes have been serviced last.

    Lately I've noticed that there is a squeeking noise when I brake. I don't want to take it to the shop because I don't want them to tell me that they need to be replaced ASAP when in reality it's not that bad.

    I'll start to slow down but the squeeking noise doesn't appear until right before I fully stop. It also makes a %26quot;thud%26quot; noise right when it's stopping. I have to press down on the brake pedal quite a bit before stopping.

    Do I get the whole ensemble replaced or just the pads? How can I tell what needs to be done without paying an arm and a leg?

    Is there anything I need to buy to put on the brakes? Cleaners or anything?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?Most likely the brake pads are worn to the point that the wear indicator is hitting the rotor thus causing a squeek.

    New pads may be all that is required to fix your brakes. Loaded calipers is not a bad way to go because sometimes recompressing old calipers just doesn't work out and the cost is not that much more. Loaded means that new pads are included. Having the rotors resurfaced is a good idea as it eliminates a break in period. New rotors do not cost that much more than resurfacing.

    A good shop will show you what is wrong if you ask them to.

    If they refuse to do this go somewhere else.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?It sounds like you need new pads. There is a built in sensor that makes that squealing sound when it is time to replace them. If you wait too long you will cause damage to your rotors and it will cost you a bunch more. You should also check your brake fluid. If it is low it could cause the delay in braking. Brake fluid is cheap and you should check it often. It's just like checking the oil. There is a little dipstick that has a measure line on it. Don't overfill though.

    You shouldn't need to put anything on your brakes. Just a good car wash should keep them in good condition.

    If you go to a reputable place like; Minieke or Midas you won't get ripped off. Don't wait too long!How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?When the brakes are squeaking, you definitely need them looked at. Most cars' brakes are designed to make that squealing noise when they need replacement (mine have done that when new brake pads were needed). What exactly is wrong is hard to say...could be just brake pads, could be bad rotors on top of that...either way, the fact that you're having to push harder to brake is pretty serious. Most places will check the problem out for free and tell you what's wrong and how much the repair will cost you. If you don't like the price, you can take it for a free, second opinion somewhere else. All I can say is, if you take it to a dealer rather than a regular mechanic, they will do a good job but they are going to charge you an arm, a leg, and then some to fix anything!How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?definately, the noise combined with the fact that your pedal needs to be pushed further down mean 2 things,

    You need new brakes and

    the brakeline needs to be bled - dont let them jerk u around that job shouldnt cost more than 100 bucks at the very most.

    I just had mine done it costed $60How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?It matters on the stopping. If you feel a jolt as if something is loose or feel a fade in braking, then your brakes are wearing out. If you take care of your brakes and don't use them recklessly, then they wont wear out. I would like to ask if you have drum brakes or disk brakes?How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?when they quit stopping car from forward or backward movement.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?Ask around maybe a friend knows someone who can help, brakes are important. I usually ask to be called and given an estimate before I will authorize any work done.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?Squeeking when u stop is just dry brake calipers, nothing to worry about, if you get a grinding sound like metal on metal then you need to get you pads replaced, if you have a shudder when braking you may need to get you disc calipers machined, Take ur wheel off and look in between you brake calipers they are the things that are bolted onto the big round disc, if the pads inside still have padding on them they are ok, you can blow the dust out with a airhose but make sure u wear a mask, then to stop the squeak you can buy a can of anti-squeak beliebe it or not , spray that on., but usually all that needs replacing would be the pads if they are gone nothing else. On a 2004 Pontiac the calipers and disc rotors would be fine still, they should last for ever as long as you keep ur pads up to date and dont let them wear down to metal. Cheers.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?You need to replace your brake pads. The squealing is the wear indicator letting you know the brakes are low.How can I tell if my brakes need to be replaced?When they start to grind!!!!!! • How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?

    Here's my dilemma, my brakes just started squealing last week on Tuesday (only the front driver side brake is squealing). I got several quotes from shops and all range from $700-$800 bucks (I need a full brake job). Money I don't have because I have not been able to find employment up until yesterday (June 7). I start working on the 12th, and this job requires driving and is out a distance from my home (3 miles). I have been taking it easy by driving only when I have to and on surface streets and not speeding. What I want to know is with light driving will my brake hold out until I get that almighty first pay check?

    Also, my owners manual says the noise is a safety feature to let me know to replace the pads soon, but what's that time frame?How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?The brakes will probably last until your paycheck. You run the risk of damaging your rotors by waiting though.(the rotor is what the brake pad presses against.) If you do end up damaging the rotors it will cost more to repair. If you have any mechanical ability and about 60 bucks you can get a set of brake pads for the front end and replace them yourself fairly easy with some simple hand tools. Autozone.com gives complete repair instructions for most vehicles. Good luckHow long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?Heck, if you live in Indianapolis, I'll Change Both your Pads %26amp; Rotors with Ceramic Pads %26amp; New Rotors on the Front for only $180

    How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?It's not so much a time line, as amount of braking.

    Right now, you probably only need brake pads.

    If you continue to drive, you could easily damage your brake rotors and the cost would more than tripple.

    Brake pads are fairly easy to replace and may be something you should look into doing yourself.

    I recommend buying a Chiltons, or Hayes manual ($20)for YOUR car and some basic tools.

    Even if you don't intend to do the repairs yourself this weekend, I still recommend the repair manual for reference so you can be a little more informed when you do take your car to the shop.

    Just read up on the repair and see if it's something you can do.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?It's not about the squealing per say, its about the thickness of your brake pads. Once the pads wear down to 2mm, they're at the recommended thickness to be replaced without risking damage to your rotors. Likely the front brakes are taking the brunt of your braking, so be especially mindful of their thickness. My front brakes squeeked at 4mm, and I drove until they went down to 2. I had no damage to my rotors, but was always worried about that each time I heard that annoying noise.

    You certainly don't want to wear the pads down past 2mm... and how long it takes, its hard to say. Depends on driving conditions, driving habits, etc.

    Monro (well known muffler.brake franchise) is having a $89.95 per axel special. That's lifetime on the pads. I suggest you take it there. That doesn't cover the labor, but it should bring your bill to something like $400-$500.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?My experience is every time you hear a %26quot;grinding%26quot; noise it's like tossing money out the window the longer you let it go. Squeaking however can sometimes be anything from moisture getting inside the pads, to actual wear. See if you can get a trusted mechanic to preserve the condition as long as possible for you to save some money. But, don't let a brake problem go too long.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?Tell the garage thats fixing your car to just install the brake pads..Front two...If your car not having any other bad noises or shimming due to poor rotors then the pads are all you need...Get quotes on just replacing the two front pads...Around 125 for the job..and get it done soon..How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?Once you score the rotors as you have, you can't hurt anything accept the other motorist you run into in the accident. So if you want to take a chance on other people's lives, do it, because people are doing it everyday out there on the road. Just go real slow because you might not be able to stop as well in a panic stop. On the other hand, some brakes on trucks are designed to be metal to metal friction and your brakes might actually work better for a time!How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?First of all, if you are willing to pay $700 to $800 for a brake job, I'll come do it for you and I don't care where you are. Find another shop.

    If it is just a high pitched squeak or chirp, you have plenty of time if you will just be short trip driving for the next 2 weeks. If it's a growling or grinding noise, stop driving at all.

    Like the others said, do it yourself or find a neighbor who knows how and offer him a grilled burger and a beer if he will come and tell you how and maybe lend you the tools if you don't have them. I don't know where you are but most places I've seen, a brake job on the front shouldn't cost more than $150 - $200 if they replace everything, and about $80 - $100 for just pads and rotors. You could do it yourself for about $30 for pads (depending on what kind of car you have it could be more or less) and approx. $30 each for rotors if needed.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?You do have some time left on the brakes when they start squealing. However you could damage the rotors. If the brakes have never been changed then you might be able to have the rotors machined instead of replaced which is cheaper. Also don't let the pads get to thin it could cause the caliper pistons from extending past there limit which could cause problems. So you ccan hold off abit, but not too long. Try the bus or bike or carpooling, 3 weeks is probably to long to go on those breaks.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?your owners manule is right the,thay put squeel tabs on brakes to let you know its time.but you will have plenty of time if you dont use the brakes hard,you should be able to go at least a month at 3 miles a day. i own a auto repair shop and im a ase master tech.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?The time frame is immediately. If only one pad is squeaking.

    I changed my own pads for $25 with some directions off the internet.

    I drove a month or two before the pad completely wore down, so you should have plenty of time though.

    If the noise really bothers you you can pull the squeaker away from the rotor with a wire and some pliers.How long after brakes start squealing do you have to get them replaced?700-800

    That said, if you have the spare cash, and the time to invest, go to Autozone, Pepboys, Advance, NAPA, or whoever and buy a general repair manual for your vehicle. Haynes is a good one to start with, and read it, especially the first part about routine maintenance.You will learn valuable things, maybe even some stuff you can fix yourself. And you'll know what going on when you take it in for repairs.

    I wish you the best of luck.

    SnuffyBrakes????depends why they are squeeking. could be worn brakes. and prices vary on each car, but pads are maybe about 50-60 dollars a set of front brakes. or could be a loose rotor or caliper and those would need to be adjusted if they are in good shape but im sure this is not the problem

    I had a bunch of bikes before that had no handle brake installation but the brake was activated upon pedaling backwards. I think this is the most reliable brake because installed handle brakes tend to break easy.How do you get the bicycle brake that works when you pedal backwards?Coaster brakes are easy to use, and they're pretty bulletproof as far as needing maintenance; but they can only be used with 1- or 2-speed systems and they're not as powerful as rim brakes. I don't know where you got the idea that rim brakes are easily broken.How do you get the bicycle brake that works when you pedal backwards?If coaster brakes were more reliable - why aren't they used more? Ever though of that? The answer is - because they are not more reliable. If in good working order, hand brakes can %26amp; do stop a bike much more efficiently.

    If you want an old, out-of-date, heavy bike - then go buy a cruiser with coaster brakes. If the bike you have now has hand brakes %26amp; isn't working properly, go see a bike shop %26amp; have them adjusted and/or fixed. It's just that simple.How do you get the bicycle brake that works when you pedal backwards?Coaster brakes also have their problems. If you chain should break or fall off for any reason, you have no brakes at all. At least with hand brakes, if one fails you have another. Good brakes don't often breakHow do you get the bicycle brake that works when you pedal backwards?Actually good hand brakes work very well, but the brakes on dept store bikes are junk and never stay in correct adjustment for very long. Hand brakes work quite well if adjusted properly.How do you get the bicycle brake that works when you pedal backwards?Your local bike shop can do it for you. My top (and highest) recommendation would be to have a professional complete it for you and take you through the propper process step by step so that in the future, you will know how to do it yourself.

    How do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?

    ok now read ALL of this you'll need it to answer my question.....

    There is this guy that i like and I try to flirt with him and laugh at things he says (that are funny) but nothing works!!! and sometimes he gives me a look saying he likes me then he doesn't my best friend said he looks back at me during social studies class all the time now im 13 and in my school saying will you go out with me means will you be my girl friend and i've liked this guy for a WHOLE year and he goes for girls with a wild funny personality now don't tell me to try to have a wild funny personality then i wouldn't be myself and don't say you can't make a guy ask you out or like i know that so don't say that.....i've made guys like me before but its hard to brake the ice with him HOW DO I TRY TO MAKE HIM ASK ME OUT!!!How do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?you dont need to change your personality to make someone happy btw. all you need to do is to say the right thing at the right time.

    for example when he says sumthing really funny, just wen u meet up with him later on, just tell him how funny he is and how much you wish u cud be like him. try to talk him up, ask his number, tell him you are bored and really need his help coz he is the only one who can make you laugh. countless other things. boys love being praised, it makes them open.

    and dont worry if he doesnt ask you out yet, just wait and slowly ecome close to him. tell him more and more stuff and keep talking and exchange glances with him in class. many things to to

    just do the right thing at the right mind.

    trust your heart. ;)

    dont try to start it all at once like the ppl above are telling you. if you kiss him and it kinda feels weird for him, that will mean BOOM. he wont even talk coz it will feel weird for him.

    also dont do anything flirty or sudden until you gain his trust and he is close to you.

    dont try it all of a sudden. he will think sumthing is weird. do all the make-up and perfumes suggested below only on a first date, to show him that you care about him.How do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?o your own thing try to make a note which says ''I LIKE YOU'' if you are nervous but don't worry i really thing he likes you but he just seem unlikely How do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?lol gud luck with thatHow do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?wear somethin that reveals a littleHow do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?Kiss him

    so good luck! xxxHow do I (try) to get this one guy to ask me out?the old blunt truth is...

    be pretty.

    wear a little more revealing clothes.

    u can splurge on a one day outfit

    buy a white undershirt, a navy blue abercrombie shirt thats low cut so it shows the white shirt.

    an abercrombie [or Hollister, for less expensive] short jean skirt

    a leather abercrombie belt.

    hollister or abercrombie flipflops

    if u have one of those Tiffany %26amp; Co. necklases that says %26quot;please return to Tiffany and Co.%26quot; wear that, or silver/gold necklace. or nothing

    try a little more makeup.

    a bronzer and powder/liquid foundation to cover up any flaws and give ur skin a glow. use a powder if u have oily skin

    wear a coat or two of mascara.

    wear a little NATURAL looking eyeshadow that matches ur foundation

    color ur lips in a shiny natural light pink lipgloss

    make sure to belnd ur makeup well so its doesnt show

    i dont know what ur hair looks like but all girls can look good with straightened hair. if u have a flatiron, use it.

    shampoo and condition hair with a antifrizz/shine shampoo and conditioner,

    then apply a shine serum

    the ultimate one is Bedhead Afterparty cream [in the pink bottle]

    flatiron ur hair WITH a heat spray and then when done apply any light hold or shine hairspray

    the finishing touch is a sexy perfume.

    the best is Victoria's Secret Very Sexy

    or Ralph Lauren Notorious

    ur mom should have a sexy perfume

    just make sure its not like some musk old lady thing

    every boy in school should be after u =]
